Alright, here's the lowdown. Just bought a 97 Impreza Outback Sport. Engine is stock. I haul around a lot of crap EVERYWHERE, and I don't want to lose a ton of performance, handling, etc, when I'm carrying my stuff around. It routinely weighs over 200 pounds. So what do I want to help me accomplish this, and what parts are gonna help me do that? Thanks:ddirty:
Probably headers, CAI, and a catback. That is always a good start. It won't cost a lot and there should be a decent amount of stuff available. I am not sure about fitments, because there aren't that many outbacks on here that year. Good luck with the search though.
Engine mods aren't going to net a whole lot on an N/A. Your best bet is to focus on the suspension stuff first.
I had a 86 NA 300zx that I put cams, header, exhaust, intake and ecu and picked up 25whp for about 1500 dollars. Hardly cost effective.:wtc: Finally got frustrated and bolted a turbo to it and ran 15psi on the stock block. Picked up over 100whp when I did that. I just think that the money is better spent on suspension than the engine unless you are going with forced induction. A car that handles really well is just as fun as one that can light up the tires.
Yeah you're right tho hehe It's just not cost effective to mod a N/A car. I miss forged iron blocks from all the nissans =(
Okay, so go with a suspension upgrade first? PS: No turbo, because apparently turbo = high insurance and premium gas = empty wallet
I'll have a header for sale within the next month. That'll improve the mid to top end a bit. Even with all the power mods I have it doesn't make my car go fast, but its quick. It has made the drivability and mpg a lot better.
