I have an 04 wrx 2.0( automatic), this is the first car I have ever owned, I had two trucks before. I must say I love my wrx. But heres my problem I want power AND a decent spool up. Can I get a quicker spool up with a rotated mount turbo? And how much quicker could I expect it to spool up, that is if it will in fact help? Thanks for any help. Chris

Welcome to the forums! I think the stock turbo is the fastest spooling turbo you can get. Anything bigger, even slightly bigger, will increase lag. I don't know too many people who would put a rotated turbo on a 2.0 engine. That would give you huge lag. Why don't you just go for stage 2 for now (engine management & turboback exhaust) and then decide if that's still not enough power.

A catless uppipe and a turboback will do wonders for the lag. If you're not happy with the spool up after those two things and engine management, well my friend, you just don't like turbos :)

you don't want a rotated setup for quicker spool. you want a turbo-back exhast (2.5 - 3" is fine) and an up-pipe. then get it tuned. stay away from blow off valves (atmospheric) and cold air intakes for now.

oh, and welcome to the boards ;)

The automatics generally spool turbos 500-700rpm slower than 5spd equivalents. Like everyone else said, replace the exhaust and yank the silencer for quicker spool. If you're really hardcore get a higher revving torque converter as that will allow you to get into the higher revs quicker.

WJM is selling a couple turbos in the FS section if you really wanted to upgrade.

Otherwise the standard path to greatness is UP / DP / Catback + EM

Pretty much like what everyone else is saying.

stay away from a rotated setup.

a turbo back, up pipe and a tune will do wonders.

if you've got some $$ to spare, install an APS (or Agency Power with the Perrin afta-maf tube) 2.5" inlet pipe, use the stock airbox/snokus and air duct. Use an STi restrictor pill in the boost line, and get an STi TMIC. THEN tune.

    Wham-o...19PSI by 3000 rpm.

its a peice in the boost control lines that regulates the airflow to control how fast the turbo spools.

    350ish you'd want an 18G.
