Ok so this was happening on my old factory pads and rotors in the rear brakes only. Weird part was it was ONLY happening when I was OFF the brakes. When I brake it goes away. I then decided to go ahead and replace pads and rotors in the rear. After replacing them with Brembo slotted rotors and ceramic pads if was fine for about 4000 miles. I took it back to the place that performed the work and they said they must not have used enough anti-squeel. So they applied more. Everything was perfect again for another 4k miles and now it is starting to do it again...mainly when everything gets hot, like after cruising on the highway for a while. Anyone have ANY clue what it could be? Pads and rotors still look just about new. Any help would be great!
Subscribed. My Brembo fronts with HP+ pads squeal like a mofo and many say theirs don't. I may need to pick up some anti-squeal.
Mine does it too every once in a while. It got pretty bad for a while so I took the pads off, regreased the shims, and reinstalled. The noise was completely gone. After going to tally I probably cooked the grease again and the noise comes back from time to time.
See mine had been regreased and again after 4k miles it is doing it...I am not really driving it hard or tracking it since having these new pads so I really don't understand.
It might not be called a shim in automotove terms, but the part I am referring to is the flat metal plate that goes between the piston and the pad.
You know mine didn't have that on it. Doug must have left it off.....I looked for it when I was installing them and thought maybe the Brembos don't have that. I'll have to look them up and order them unless someone has some lying around.
I wonder if they serve any good purpose. That might just be the cause of the squealing. The only good use I can think of is to avoid damaging the back of the pads. Are your pads damaged in anyway after running it without the shim?
Sometimes If Regular Anti-seize Lubricabt Is Used You Will Get A Brake Squeel. I Used It On All My Brake Jobs For A While And Had Somebacks For A Scrubbing/swqueeking Noise In The Rear. I Then Started To Only Use The Subaru Lubrcant Grease That Comes With The Factory Brakes And Had No Problems With Noises After That
My pads look fine. They are the Hawk HP+ that came with the Brembos I bought from Doug. He said they only had 2 track events on them and I know Luke braked hard on them several times because the 06 rotors were toasted with heat marks but the pads are fine. I know I have an aggressive pad but I've also read that many have the same pads with no squeaks. Also that shim is very thin so I bet it's there to help disperse the squeal with the anti squeal grease is applied. I dunno.......all I know is if I'm hearing it over my Nur Spec plus with me being deaf it must be loud as fawk!
I always say that I pay for performance and not quite brakes everytime my squeel...I'm still and the stock pads I always thought the shim plate was to help stop the squeel
I think I am going to try the subaru anti squeel...whatever they used it is burned off again...getting tired of this and ready to have normal brakes again. Also going to replace the front rotors finally and the pads. Any recommendations for pads to use with Brembo slotted rotors?
Well just applied more anti-squeal today. Problem solved, but it looks like my outside pad is hanging on the driver's side (where the squeal is worse) and it might be a problem with the clips...might have to get new pads and slap them on there complete with new clips...anyone seen these new pads from Napa...
