For a month I've been boosting the hell out of my stock EJ205. I've loaded my dyno map and messed with the EBCS and it's boosting 28psi. Talk about hauling ass for a 2.0L!!!! It literally plants you in the seat and is on the verge of losing traction in 2nd gear. I'm just waiting for the head gasket to pop or for the pistons to crack or something. Absolutely no Knock and absolutely no timing being pulled. Hey it's running strong and holding it.....so be it. I want this engine to pop but until it does I'm leaving it like it is. What in the world is with my car? First its a freaking solid tranny that won't break even with slicks.....now the engine won't give. LOL I love this car.
Yep 28 psi. Also AFR is only sitting at 10.9 sometimes 11.1. Heh a STi longblock with compression bumped up to 9.5:1 with forged pistons. Mate that with a Hydra, either the GT52 turbo I have sitting at the house or a SZ55 turbo, and one hell of a tune with 3 maps. Running 93 only, 93 + methanol, and C16 (yum). Oh and a tranny of some flavor.....I may go back with PPG helicals. The straight cuts are WAAAAY too loud.
If you are launching on slicks now... watch your engine mounts... I won't say how many I've been through
I understand the want to upgrade your engine, but why not pull the engine and sell to someone with a GC or a 2.5 RS that wants to upgrade to a WRX?
Because I want to push the limits of the motor. Doug did this on a Stock STi block to see what it was capable of. I think they had like 590 hp or something like this. SS doesn't want to tune aggressive and push it for reputation sake but I'll be darned if I won't. With what my car has been through I don't want to sell a motor that has been beaten into the ground and have something happen when they use it. Anyways this motor is pretty darn stout. Seems like maintenance and upkeep is the key ingredient to a strong motor.
I haven't been on the drag strip in like 6 months now if not longer. I have no desire for it anymore. It's boring and I have nothing to prove. All my 11's were run with the same method.....I would take SS's tune and make it boost more on the strip. Undo the changes and drive on the original tune after the drag strip. Now it's on it's drag strip setup indefinately. 1 month and 3500 miles so far and I'll hit 28 psi 2-3 times daily in third gear.
that's crazy strong dude. good luck with the longevity. i'm interested to see how long it lasts. what kind of maint. sched. are you doing besides freq. oil changes?
I change the oil every 2500-3000 miles. Every other oil change I change the spark plugs. Constantly check the coolant. Constantly check for any vaccuum leaks and such. Always have the Delta Dash up and running if I plan on romping on the car a bit (ie racing or playing around) and I'm always monitoring the knock correction and timing. If anything is out of whack (I mean anything) I do not push the car and usually ended up calling SS for answers (which I've backed off doing a lot lately). I'm very aware of what is going on and if something isn't feeling right then usually something simple is the culprit.
*tick tick tick tick tick* Anyone else hear that? In all honesty, you can run however much HP you want for a 'long time' on a street engine. I bet a few 4th gear pulls or 1 good 5th gear will kill it. Deformed piston or a rod will want to escape.
EJ205 is weak. Granted mine looked great when it was pulled apart but its still a weak engine platform. 28psi is nuts man, I'd love to have enough money to just see what blows up first like you. I'm betting your rings are going to give out before anything else.
if you can find them, can i have your pistons for decoration after it explodes? I'm kidding. The 2.0 is an amazing engine. I've always said anything over 100HP per liter is impressive.
Only on an NA motor like an S2K. Forced induction throws all of that out the window. If you really want some pistons I've got 4 that look pretty new.
A little jealous eh? What you talking about have enough money to just see what blows? You have a freaking EJ207 sitting in your engine bay.
Siegel probally detuned peak torque, which is what we did to my 205. Thats why it has lived so long. I bet you could get one to make almost 500whp but it would only make one pass before it spit a rod out.
I wouldn't doubt it. He made a lot of changes off the dyno. I promise that that will not happen on my next tune....no if ands or buts.
No dyno unfortunately. Absolutely no tuning but increasing the boost. The car is so damn rich it amazes me how much boost I could increase it.
