effortless rev

what are some ways to make the boxer engine feel 'effortless' to rev? i suppose that it might be the nature of the boxer engine, but to me, the engine feels lazy and when you rev it it feels like it's really being strained, compared to, lets say, some inline 6 engines (BMW 3-series, old school Lexus GS300,), and inline 4s (civic, rsx, corolla, s2000 etc). o, but the newer EJ25s are MUCH better at this than the 2.0ones.. perhaps displacement is a big part of it, but what are some other things that i may look for, in order to accomplish this? (getting my timing belt and water pump changed, along with an engine tune-up from my dad's friend's shop).

btw, an engine oil change CERTAINLY makes a difference, but i want something a little bit more permanent.

my guess for this 'smoother' , linear torque/horsepower band is:

displacement (i`m confused cuz rotary engine feel is what i`m looking for, but it's only a 1.3L)
compression (burn things off faster, resulting in smooth power delivery? maybe..)
piston (pistons are coated with specific substances to lower the friction)
rods (i have no clue.. i just think it would help...?)
camshaft (agressive angles of the lobes allow more air in?)
    flywheel (lighten up the rev)

let me know what you guys think.

I think a lot of it has to do with the boxer layout. The air as to travel quite a bit before it even reaches the turbo. Listen to Baller's WRX. It revs like a beast.....totally revamped exhaust manifold on it.

Get a lightened flywheel. The only things that will help an engine rev faster is to lighten the internals. Everything else you listed will add power which will in turn let the engine push to higher revs quicker but might also add lag which will cancel it out.

Lightened crank pulley OR lightened flywheel, not both.

its only the lower rps that seem that way for me

Exactly. Reducing any unsprung mass is always a nice plus as well.

    Internals and Exhaust manifold.

First you have to make it lighter.

Second you have to raise the compression.

An N/A EJ25 with all the light weight that you can put on an EJ205 will still out rev the 205 every day of the week...since its 10:1.

But lightweight crank pulley and a Fidanza aluminum flywheel will do wonders. Since your car is not a drive by wire w/AVCS you should not have any issues with missfire CELs.

buy my lightweight exedy flywheel and clutch, that will help you rev faster

will a lighter flywheel result more fuel consumption and less available power going uphill?

    No. No.

No, heavy things only provide momentum. The power to do things still comes from inside your engine. The momentum is why it is easier to engage the clutch at slow speeds and harder with a lightweight flywheel.
