I was walking the dog the other day and found this odd piece of PVC in my yard. I took it to homedepot but the plumbing guy couldnt tell me what the hell it was. I will stay on the search for answers... Anyways, the piece is awesome. With a little dremel work it would make a great surround. Combine that with the lower portion of a light in my backyard and you get something that has potential. One of the neatest parts it seems is that there is enough light able to pass through that you could run a CCFL behind it all and just get little bits of bling when everything is assembled. Lower portion of lamp on left, odd pvc cap dealio in the center and on the right is the top "hat" of the lamp cut out to resemble a e46 bixenon projector...I have some odd trimmings on it for a side project Im working on, disregard those. (Ill have photos of that comparison in the next post.) And the money shot...
^^Thats exactly what it is, good call, i knew I recognized it, but I was thinking about PVC fittings, not a blender. http://www.goodmans.net/item.asp?n=HA-050&k=HA-050&sc=DEALTIME
Holy crap! Thx axel Looks like I can build a nice set of shrouds for customers on a budget all for less than 20 or so
Just threw this together this morning (was bored). I ran a small strip of red pin stripping around the inner edge just for looks (if you're a time attack kinda guy or have a setup with wheels that are similar). The blender base was painted metallic black because that is what I had sitting on the shelf at the time. The outer skirt is not sanded yet, but with some time it sands quite evenly and flat. Once it is, it takes primer and a top coat quite well. Ive tested and a 96mm ccfl ring fits damn perfectly around the inside allowing light to shine through as in my original post.
Dude i really like the look of that, do you have a pick of the CCFL behind it? BTW, my GF figured out that it was a blender in 2seconds flat. Over my shoulder "that looks like a blender"
Sure, its an older one though. Let me look for you Here we go, this is from a previous project but you get the idea: At night and in a housing that would look unbelievably different and quite eye catching!
Wouldn't it be hard to get the outside of the shroud to seal the light completely? Or would you want it to have that 'aura'?
No I haven't started yet as I want to get everything in hand first. All I'm missing are some shrouds. I can't find E46 shrouds ANYWHERE! I ran across a killer deal for TSX clear lens projectors with brand spanking new D2S 18522+ (or whatever that number is but it's the nicer + ones) bulbs.
There is apparently a HUGE shortage of them right now. Even Alex and Caesar can't find them... For now
There's a set on ebay for >$200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Uh no thanks. Any other shrouds that will work great and not cost an arm and leg?
Completely forgot my buddy that owns a BMW junkyard. If he has several cars 02-05 3 series BMW with busted headlights but good shrouds would anyone want me to put a hold on them for you to buy?
