I didnt know if i got the turboback exhaust i wouldnt pass inspection..I live in jersey so idk if the laws are different in atlanta about the noise levels... So if i want that nice growl that all the wrx's have how can i get that, am i able to bolt on a cat converter inbetween the exhaust somewhere if i still get the turboback exhaust? Could you guys help me out with what i need to do to pass inspection and make my ride legal but still have the turboback? -Sean
If you're here in Georgia, all you have to do is pass the CEL check. As long as you're not throwing any CEL's and you've not reset the ecu recently, you're fine. They'll plug their machine into your OBDII port and check it.
Way to read pEd The easiest way would be to go to the NJ DMV website (or w/e) and read their rules... Maybe you have to pass a visual inspection up there and some sort of sound regulation I dont know. The only thing I can tell you is that downpipes are available with OR without high-flow cats. My car passed emissions a few months ago (in Atlanta) with zero cats
I remember when i lived in NJ that almost any mods where forbidden. We got in trouble with an otherwise stock 4cyl w/only an aftermarket muffler,it was a stock style replacement but a little louder that they thought it should be.This was a few years back.
Most catbacks are C.A.R.B legal, meaning they pass the anal California noise laws of being under 80dB or something around that. If you have a catted dp, the noise is not nearly as loud as an uncatted. I have been running the HKS HiPower with Perrin DP (catless) and at the last autox on full power, I think I was running low 70s dB.
