So i just filled my tank at QT and although I KNEW I pressed the premium button, its now got a little arrow above the Plus box... So I go inside and the guy at the counter (after talking me up about my badass car and his night managers Starion ) prints out a receipt and it DID have premium as the gas that I bought... so now I am very untrusting on what I have in my car at the moment, so it looks like I am going to have to drive it slow until the next fillup. Question is, if I end up having to floor it when merging or pulling away from a stoplight, am I going to kill my engine or will the ECU take it into account. Stock 02 ECU here. hnoes:
I have bad gas all the time. On the FUEL note...if your ECU is 100% stock...it has enough logic that a tank of 89 will not be harmful. However, long term use of 89 or 87...is BAD.
When I first got my car, my dad filled it up for the first few weeks with 87... I never really floored the car but it seemed to run fine. Of course now with the tuning and mods I would NEVER run that crap again!
or just buy a $3 bottle of octane booster and dont worry about it. And i think i know about the guy with the starion, he is one of my friends that lives down the street from me. He has three of the right now i think, one that works, its mean but unreliable. He has brought it out to the varsity meets a few times.
Those things are unreliable. From the little research I did, it seems that they might improve octane by a negligible amount.
I was having misfiring issues, so i swapped in new plugs on the install day 2 weeks ago, everything was running perfectly fine for the past half month. I am half way through my current tank of gas, and suddenly I would get misfires in different situations, not sure if it's the gas since I've been through half tank of it already...and I always get gas the same Shell Station... sorry for the hijack but I really need to fix this
The octane booster is pure crap. Only raises the octane by 0.01 If you want to raise the octane go get some 110 race fuel or even 2-3 gallons of C16 at Topspeed.
Old thread about octane boosters that might shed some light http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4874
perrin lightned pulley, could that be the problem? I had it for a year and it never gave me had any issues until recently.
Yeah if you read on the back of the octain bottles it says that it only increases the octain some decimal of an amount, never used them before and never will... i vote for not worrying about it if you stock, i ran 89 in my vf-34ed wrx by accident once and it just threw a cel, that was about it. just stop at the gas station each day and add some more 93...
