Who do you use and trust? I live in the North Ga but Im open to drive a reasonable distance. Coming from FL where I learned that its crucial who you let tint your car and with what kind of tint. My tint guy back home was my next door neighbor of mine for 11 yrs who started off his business in his garage and he has done all 4 of my cars that I ever own talk about convenience! He has done the illegal tint on all of them 5% on the rear windows of the 92x's right now :coolugh:! I feel like everyones looking at me lets hear those recommendations!
I'm curious too. I know some people here have used a guy that will come to you, tints good and has good prices. I had his number at one point but I lost it so maybe someone can chime in with his info.
I would check to see if the tinter has worked on Subarus before. Because Subaru does not have a frame around the top of the door, the window pushes up againt the weather stripping everytime you open and close the door. The guys I used did not know ho to work with this, they said, "Don't roll down the windows for 48 hours." NO problem, but I DO have to open and close the door in the next 48. This caused the tint at the top of my driver's side to get messed up. Shades of Perfection in roswell...not recommended, the guy who originally tinted mine isn't even there anymore
I've used Hot Spot Tinting for both Subarus, as well as the windows in my home. Great work, great prices. http://www.hotspottinting.com/
milo has a guy that comes to you to do the tinting so you can get it done at work or in your off time.
I got my tint done by Tint Genius recently. They did an excellent job, especially considering that my tint job was technically free. I have thier info at home and will post it up for you guys tonight when I get off work. They are in the Buckhead area, less than a mile from Milo's apartment off Northside Dr.
I'll post later today with the tint guy's info who did my tint. The business was bought out by two guys who've been doing it for years. They did 20% around including my sunroof for $240 and lifetime warrenty. It's good quality tint, not anything cheap. They will also travel to you but you need to have a shaded place plus not too much dust. They actually had me come to their own pad and used their garage to do it. They are located on Barrett at the Amli apartments near the mall.
yeah 35% will do the trick, it looks like 20% with the black interior. I went with a 10in strip on the windshield. Ive had good remarks about it.
I agree, however, Tint is very difficult to make look good if you are inexperienced. After watching Tint Genius do my car, I think I could probably do a semi decent job, but what I think and what reality is could be very far apart. I would definitely love to give it a go though.
you may not want to do it at home or in the open. You have to make sure its dust free otherwise its not goin to look good Ask the tinter will he tint all the way to the edge of the window if he is not sure he can then move on because our cars does not have a window frame and would peel if its done poorly. Ask if they will do ceramic tint for the rear - in order for the antenna to work properly I do not know and still like to know if metallic film degrades radar detectors transmission and receive.. I got mine done at SolarGuard - not perfect but very good job. With Formula Ceramic tint 50% (all i want is UV block and a tad tint with great nighttime visibility) Lifetime all US warranty. Rear was one piece film Sides were all the way to the edge. HInd sight i would do 30% on rear window glare from lights from other cars especially HIDs
If you wanted to try it yourself I will be more than glad to help...but like jewels said the read window is tricky...hints why mine is not tinted
If you wanna try the rear window some day, I am down. All that is needed to make it easier is a heatgun or blowdryer. Maybe we can borrow the heat gun from Alex #1. I have a garage we could use too. I watched Spence do mine, and I honestly think I can do it.
We have a tint guy at our shop in union city that is top notch! He has over 15 years experience. He also only uses solar guard titanium tint and has a lifetime guarantee. Spectrum Sound 770 969-9090
If RoMe wants to tackel it...I would want to try my rear windshield as well....let us know RoMe!!! :naughty:
I'd like to know this guys info too since I live right off of Barrett. $240 is a little steep tho but I guess a lifetime warranty is good...
If you are going to tackle the back window, you should look into pre-cut tint. A buddy of mine in Cali runs a business that sells pre-cut and it is pretty neat how easy it can make the job. http://www.snaptint.com/car-tint-Subaru-Impreza Wagon-2005.html (this isn't his company as he only does wholesale)
I don't know about trying it myself I tried before on a car that I had and it was not so good the back window was terrible and with the STI with no door frame that makes me more nervous ill come over and help just call me Im off for the next 2 days!!
My brother who has a Mazda 3 just talked to our tint guy back home and he quoted him $200 for ceramic tint and $250 for that not so legal %. So I guess $240 isnt that bad Id like to see more prices though
Pre cut shouldn't matter. The hardest part is getting the bubbles out of curved glass, but with a Hair Dryer, you can shrink the tint to get the bubbles out on the outside of the car, so it is pretty much formed to the rear window to start with. Again, I think I can probably do this fairly decently.
^^^ Are you saying to tint the outside of the window? I would only worry if we have to put a seem in it. I found a little baby shampoo and water in a spray bottle with the rubbed wedge works great for getting the bubbles out...
also I think the windows of our cars makes it easy to do because of no window frame you can GENTLY run a razor blade around the edge of the window to trim the extra...RoMe you have seen my tint right?
Sorry it took a while but the tint guys have a website, http://tintatlanta.com/index.htm And when you call, speak to Stephen Krontz and mention you're a wrxatlanta member. 404.914.3100 skrontz@tintatlanta.com
No, you do it on the outside of the window with the film still on the back to get the shape and cut done, shrink with the hairdryer, peel the backing off and put in on the inside. Much easier to work with it on the outside of the car, then just fit it up on the inside.
Aaahhh! that would be much easier! I got tint from pepboys and I think they have a taller sheet to avoid a seem...with this said I think there would be enough to do two windows assuming we don't screw it up!
no mobile tints! the tint man that comes to you is convenient hwever unreliable..you may not see them but there is always dust particles flying in the air which will get trapped under the tint ausing bubble or blemishes..i have had both of my crs done at K&L window tinting on Bufor Highway in Norcross dont know how far away that is for yall but it has looked great and all of it is 3M window film and lifetime warrantied againt chipping, scratching, and fading..did all of my windows 5% and windshield 35% and looks great and only $290..another plce is digital car audio hwever much mor expensive..both lifetime guaranteed
So I forgot to post this but i did end up getting my windows done at Lams in Gainesville for $180. Its 20% all around and I feel much better now no more fish bowl :hsugh: for me! They did a good job and it only took about 30 min. Thanks for the tip Greg
