Welcome... I think most people here would be respectful of your father if he was to join and not flame him too much. And we certainly can't blame you...
Welcome to WRXatlanta. Not sure who your dad is, but you don't have to worry about being flamed here. WRXatlanta is run a little differently from most forums out there.
Hello, My name is amanda, my fiance found you guys a few days ago and since we are both car people he told me i should check you guys out. But before i go on, i guess i should get the pain over with. My background, I have been driving subarus since i got my license, well i guess i should say since before I got since, my first car was a 1996 Legacy, then i bougt a baja then got smart and traded it in for the WRX my fiance drives, i couldn't drive it in Atlanta traffic, because i now drive a SVX, 1993 anniversary edition at that (we also have a 1985 RX-7). Well the reason for this ... and i'll stop dragging my feet ... is my dad happens to be the man most of you are probably disliking at the moment. I am the daughter of the Southeastern District Service manager. Hi randy! and everyone at SOG and the distict office that knows me. But my biggest thing is, if you guys need anything, like any answers about voiding warranty for mods or anything like that feel free to ask, i am going to try to get him on here so you guys can have Q and A with him, if i don't cause a mutiny or anything like that. *runs and hides in the biggest most re-enforced bunker she can find*
:wavey: hey, no need to hide, we buy these cars to modify them, we (should) know what we're getting into. i'm more pissed at what subaru is doing to the ECUs and overall look/performance of the STi welcome aboard.
Everyone knows that installing after market parts could void certain warranties. I have a decent set of mods on my car and I am sure that I have already lost every warranty, except maybe air conditioning and other little stuff. So obviously, if my car blows a motor, I don't expect SOA to cover it. However, I do have 2 questions that would apply to most people on here: 1) We have quite a few people on here that have close to stock cars and they do participate in autocross events from time to time. One particular event is the Subaru Challenge, where a LOT of us will be coming out to participate. We have all heard the rumors about 'racing' voiding your warranty. How true is this? What I am trying to get at is are there people looking at the list of autocross entries and black listing participants for warranty claims? 2) I have never understood the clutch warranty. From what I have been told, blue spots on the flywheel show signs of abuse, which will void your clutch warranty. But what if someones clutch starts slipping, without any abuse. By the time that person shows up at the dealership, it might have slipped enough to put blue spots on the flywheel. Would that be considered abuse?
1) Racing does not void your warranty. the point of the Subaru challenge is to teach you how to do it properly. Subaru knows you own the car for a reason. this is per the DSM of the southeast region. if your car is at the Subaru challenge it will have NO bearing on your warranty, or any other race for that matter. is you miss shift while racing and damage your engine then your just at fault. just like if you had done it under normal driving conditions. 2) The ECU logs alot more than you would think.
just to add to what my fiance, tougetuned, said when he replied if you look at the site for the subaru challenge, this is put on by subaru for subaru owners and in no way void warranty unlike Mitsubishi which voids your warrenty as soon as your tires even look at a track. thank you guys so much for the warm welcome, and if my dad voided your warranty ... hate to say it but in his words ... it was your fault. lol :keke:
If you intend to advertise in your signature please contact me regarding vendor ship or sponsorship. With that said, welcome to the community :wavey: I trust that you will enjoy your stay.
People do look confused. Including WRX owners who don't recognize it. I just get puzzled looks when I wave. Good thing too. My seatbelts always lock up when I accelerate for some reason.
What can the ECU see that shows signs of abuse short of over-revving or over-boosting? Is there a black box that records the last 30 seconds before the motor blows? Welcome to the site! Like Alex said, feel free to contact him if you'd like to sponsor our site.
The way it was explained to me is the learning ecu has internal codes for excessive rev limiter bouncing, overreving etc. someone please correct me if i am wrong. these are recorded within the ecu. thats how they know if you have been beating the crap out of it. mitsubishi is worse because they keep a hour of operational driving data logged for "performance" reasons
A few autoxs will not hurt your car... it may shave your tires a bit . If you are competiting in a nationally preped autox car yes you will brake stuff that subaru will not replace (and really not have to replace). In my first year of causal autoxing saw no real "wear or tear" on my car except for my tires. However once I got more serious and added r-comps things started to brake which is fine because wear items like mounts and the clutch were not designed for racing tires. In the end I'm racing my car so you pay to play. That's my end of a thread jack.... Welcome to the boards and you should definately make it out to the Subie challenge! We need more women autoxers in Atlanta
we are definately coming out, unless by some act of god or my car throws another fit and we dont make it. i am still debating on whether or not to auto-x it would be my first and for the life of me i cant figure out which class is the lowest/noob class to run in. so if anyone has any suggestions HELP the noob please! my fiance is gonna try to run the WRX as well if he can get a walk-in, provided someone is a no show.
if they are both stock, the WRX will be in D-Stock. the SVX will either be in H-Stock, or G-Stock (wait on Meredith for the right class)
if you unplug the battery it will only reset the learning part of the ECU the logs will still be there sorry because my car has a thing called limp home if you were able to delete the logs that program would not know how to respond due to significate system failure. so there is a reason for it.
dad My father and i are on several jeep and off road boards together. HE is not into the import side of things but respects the speed our "lil four bangers" can make. I think its funny that while mine might not sounds as good as his big blocks... it sure does give them a run for their money! WELCOME!
