Edit update see bottom of this post

Ok, I've been talking to a local fab shop about doing a Air Oil Separator for my STI and it looks like a lot of other people are interested as well so I'm going to try and figure out how we can do a group buy. If we can get enough people together it should bring the price down a lot. I think the crawford AOS is $350 I'm relatively sure we can get them to make them for ATLEAST 100 BUCKS LESS.

    First a couple of questions,

Do you want just the can or a complete kit with hose etc...?

Do you want it raw or polished?

What options would you like to see?

There is no limit to the number of people, more is better. I just want to keep tabs on who wants one so I can contact you guys when I get more info.

    Group Buy list

I'll be doing the group buy for the first 10 people, this thing has kind of snowballed and these products will be available at youre local performance shop(Batlground and maybe Topspeed).

It looks like I'm going to be doing a whole line of products. I've gotten tired of not being able to get the quality of parts that I want for my STI. It seems like everytime I buy something I have to modify it to get it to work properly. This line of products is going to be about quality, I want everything to work properly before it goes on the market, so you will have to give me a couple of weeks to test some of the parts before they are available.

Here are the plans so far.

    A.O.S Air Oil Separator Kit

    Radiator

    Radiator with Integrated Oil Cooler

    Oil Cooler (stand alone)

    Coolant Reservoir for Radiator

Coolant Surge Tank (on top of manifold)

    Fuel Rails

I'm definitely interested in a complete kit with hoses, mounting hardware, etc. Like I mentioned in monk's thread, I am curious about the design (baffles, tube inlet/outlet locations, etc.) if that information can be shared.

I'll get all the info I can, I'll probally get them to make a prototype first and I'll let you test it before we have a bunch of them made.

Honestly from the discussions that I have had with the fab shop so far its not a complicated design, It will probally look very similar to the crawford part.

I'll get prices on hoses etc...

The guys I'm having make the part also do custom radiators so if someone is interested in testing one of those I can get a smoking deal on a super thick radiator. I can also have the radiator built with a Oil Cooler built into the bottom.

I don't think that me testing it would be very useful, as I don't see myself being out at a track anytime soon. As long as it does the job of keeping the air in the intake and the oil in the engine, I'll be thoroughly pleased. I'm primarily curious about the location of the inlets/outlets and the baffle design
just to make sure that the oil is truly separated form the air. If you can get that info, maybe like a cross-section image, that would be awesome.

so is blow by re-routed back into the oil pan, doesn't sound like a good idea, more info please :)

kinda interested in the radiator or a separate oil cooler

Why doenst that sound like a good idea?

Id consider it and maybe a oil cooler if the price was right.

I'm not sure how well the oil-separators works or the principle behind it, so if it drains the milky blow-by oil back into the oil pan, I don't think it's a good idea.

Again this is my own speculation, if it does its job properly then I see no problems at all and probably will purchase one at some point. Same concern as Milo.

Only some of it is blow-by and re routing it back into the oil pan is exactly what you should do with it. Most of it is just air born oil that is churned up by cams and crank etc... Its not like you're contaminating the oil with it the blow by is going into the crankcase anyway.

The radiators that these guys make are really nice. The integrated oil cooler setups they have are ultra nice.

The blowby goes into the crank case anyway, rerouting the little bit of oil that ends up in the seperator back into the cranck case is not going to hurt anything.

Fire away with the questions, I'll be happy to clarify anything I've said if I need to. I did a lot of research on this after One Lap. I'm also going to test a similar setup on my mustang.

I was concerned about a similar issue, because the oil collecting in the catch can looks pretty nasty. But here's a conversation on NASIOC

    Other interesting issue to consider:

Two things, I'm not sure that the pressure has any effect on the oil draining and I was thinking of putting a check valve in line. I need to do some simple test to see if its needed.

    I agree

lol, yesterday I wasn't sure if I really wanted to do this.

This morning I had 5 preorders for Radiator oil cooler combos and we have 7 people interested in the A.O.S.

Its funny how things work out.

I'll have prototypes later next week.

rad/oil cooler or just the oil cooler sound really good, in fact i've been thinking about oil cooling for some time now... very timely ;)

i would think a complete kit for the AOS would be choice

The Rad\Oil Cooler is going to be very trick, hopefully Ill have pricing later next week. Its going to be cheaper than buying both of them seperate.

If plumbing instructions come with, count me in for a FMIC fitment kit. ;)
