Here's a video of my co-driver Jay Parcon at the COC..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX0I1eQItJE Who says that you can't drift AWD car
Patrick (Gotsol) is an amazing AWD drifter. He has shocked me several times with his ability to kick the tail out and get around a sharp corner.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=GcFSsgZlH1M that last video you got a little sideways, thats always fun:rofl:
Per wikipedia A car is said to be drifting when the rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle, and the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right), and the driver is controlling these factors. To oversteer and have the rear end of the car step out, is not drifting.
No offense but that sounds like somebody who's watched way too much intial d wrote up that article in wikipedia. I also find it's funny that I getting told "what's drifting" by somebody whom hasn't autoxed in two years....
What does the fact that I haven't Auto X'd in the past 2 years have to do with drifting? I am basically pointing out that sliding, as your car is doing in both those videos, is not drifting.
But initial D is about drifting, so what is wrong with someone who gathers the definition of drifting from the actual action? In Formula D and D1, the drivers are awarded points on their angle as well as other factors. Not saying AWD cars cant do it, drifting originated in Rally racing to cut corners without slowing down and Will posted a nice video of a GC doing some drifts on the road. There is a difference in slight oversteer and actual "Drifting" i.e getting sideways
I'm merely stating that it's interesting how you like to tell me I'm not understanding the concepts of oversteer and drifting when you've seemed to become this "armchair" professor on drifting and autox. Yes jay is countersteering in the car, but jeeze since you haven't seen my car been driving in say two years you wouldn't know that. While it's not the hugest or longest drift in the world it's still a drift. And yes you can go by your internet definition, I'll go by what i see and feel.
you know what... if I want to told about driving from people that go to carshows and watch initial d I'd post on IA.... I think this the last time I'm posting here.... ever.... Farewell!
And I am not saying you don't understand the concepts of oversteer and drifting, I am saying that from what I see in the videos you posted, that is not drifting. You said earlier I gave you a definition, and you attacked me for not Auto Xing in 2 years and for taking a definition from someone who probably watched to much Initial D. Who should I take a drifting definition from, someone who races F1 for a living, or perhaps a Pro National Auto Xer? Oh, and I'm sorry I don't find racing for 4 minutes and standing around for 3 hours nearly as fun as I did 3 years ago.
you know what i hate. i hate it when people think that their crap dont stink and that they know it all but when they are criticized and corrected they blow up and turn around and try and down those who are just trying to help them understand where they were wrong. then when not everybody agrees on their behalf they want to pitch a fit and run away.
Per the definition, I would call that drifting in parts of the run... I have ridden along Jay plenty of times, and he is quite in control of the car, and counter steering. The car is a blast to drive now. You should ride along sometime if you get a chance. I wouldn't compare autocross to drift events, but the car is a lot more fun now with the new setup.
yeah.. no need to argue over semantics... instead, lets post random pictures!!!!! here is one of my old time favorites! http://candyballsjingle.ytmnd.com/
I will be at the Suby Challenge. I would love to ride along if they allow passengers at the event. Mere's car, and your S2000 were the best cars I ever drove on the Auto X course. My WRX sucks compared to a relatively, if not completely stock STI on the course.
Yeah, I certainly hit more cones with the back of my car than the front. That course looks really hard and a ton of fun. I was 100% disappointed in the course they had for #10 the day before that... It was so lame. I know, then I should have been at the CoC.. but I have a hard time making it to Sunday events.
LOL... I used to be able to drive my car into our side parking lot at about 20mph and flip it into awd doughnuts. I would drift the crap outa my STI. Kinda wish I sti had it.
drifting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHUChUiw7v4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SX-eH-_iZWw not drifting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX0I1eQItJE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOaInYfIQYc
Hey man, thanks. Yeah my car with the STX set up was crazy tail happy! I even debated joining the drifters just to show them what AWD was all about. I guess I grew up watching too much Dukes of Hazard. Nice videos! Jay drove my car once. I don't think I'd let him agian
Damn, both of those "not drifting" videos were removed by the user. Too bad, I love bad drifting - hahaha
Bottom line is that you kicked the tail out several times around that course in your first post, which probably means you were going ridiculously hard. Which rules. Mad props. You don't see wrx's oversteer like that everyday.
