since they don't make them for N/A 2.2L engines, I'm gonna make one my damn self.

    Who wants to help?
Who has advice, parts recommendations, etc?

Not sure about your car but the WRX and STi, being so dependent on the MAF reading, can run like complete crap if the ID or flow is even just a little bit off.

So I'd basically have to be really careful..?

Hard to define careful. From my understanding, any tiny change in the MAF reading (Volts -> Grams of air) that is not accounted for will affect fuel maps and timing maps adversely. I would suggest you don't damage your stock components so you could switch back to them if your custom piece makes the car run funny.

Like I said, maybe your car will not be affected at all.

Right. I'm thinking since I have no Engine Management and no turbocharger it's not gonna be that big of a deal.

Maybe call and ask someone who may know. Maybe a tuner.

Honestly, I wouldn't mess with anything "pre-motor." Exhaust is fine, but wouldn't change ANYTHING before it. Nobody likes to hear it, but if you want to go fast, it will always be easier and cheaper to follow a proven path than to try to do something nobody else has done... I would STRONGLY suggest buying a car that is commonly modified.

I am doing this just for the hell of it to see if it can be done. :)

I'm not trying to get some kind of a hardcore high-horsepower monster, just a fun little DD.

Alright, so my current plan is to do a snorkusectomy, then remove the airbox (I guess that's what it's called, it's where the panel filter is). Afterward I'm gonna run piping down through the hole formerly being used by the airbox into the fender well.

    Reasonable?

Home depot sells a PVC toilet adaptor, it is a 3 inc outside diameter, fits a cone filter just fine. You can us this to bolt up to your MAF sensor. Then use aluminum heat pipe for the rest. <i had a ghetto one on my altima>

I'm dropping the filter into the fender well, though. So use one of those to bolt to the MAF, and another for the filter?

Also, did your ghetto one do anything for ya?

Bump. Still need to know if I have the procedure correct. From the MAF just drop aluminum piping into the fender well and stick a filter on the end of it?
