http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/B-Tu...186043060QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item260186043060 ok maybe not this one cause it looks cheap... but should i get 1 of these??? or an electronic one?
^^^^ SI! dont go cheap and break anything just get a turbo back exhaust then save for the access port. Or just start with an axle back exhaust
I ran 17+ psi on my stock turbo for 70k miles w/no EM and no problems! You do need an up and downpipe to run that high though. I switched my set up 25k miles ago to a bigger turbo and supporting mods but still use a manual controller @20psi.
I don't think bad ideas last 127k miles. I also was running the ever so not popular AEM short ram w/the same "engine blowing" set up.lol
ok im getting a 3inch catback on the first then i was thinking up/down pipe, a boost gauge and idk a header im looking for a tunable ecu that i can hook to my laptop as a part of a carputer type thing(its a friends idea so ill see how it works out) im saving for a t3/t4 turbo that im gonna try to by from someone on here basically i want a good handling fast car and im learning about all this stuff slowly i do research but it seems like i get better answers from u guys so if anyone can help im trying to make a list i have a 02 wrx wagon it is my baby ive wanted a subaru since i was 5 but my mother had cancer and passed when i was 16 so i had to put my life on hold for a while so im getting into the tuning world a little late so any help/info is great heres what i have thus far 1 short ram intake(well half of my cold air intake)i will be adding the rest on tuesday night(ill post pics) 2 turbo xs bov 3 6 puck ceramic custom clutch and a stronger pressure plate(10 pound more is what the guy said) 4 sound system 5 carbon fiber hood
If you are seriously thinking of going with a t3t4, I would strongly recommend not buying up pipe and downpipe, or for that matter, any mechanical parts for the stock setup unless you really understand what you are getting into. Every t3t4 setup I have seen has been rotated and requires a lot of parts (e.g. intake, uppipe, downpipe) that will not work directly with the stock setup. I did read something about adapters that could make an uppipe work but I do not know much about them.
Get an Accessport rather than a laptop/ecu combo. Stock wrx's make 13 psi, and you definately need a boost guage to monitor that before anything. I put a short ram on and I was only getting 10 psi so if you arent reaching stock, you have a problem somewhere. I also had a problem with the 2 bov's I put on and lost boost. Before anything I recommend getting a boost guage.
Ok here we go...going to try not to burst the proverbial bubble too bad. For the Engine Management, you can find version 1 Cobb AP programmers pretty cheap these days since the v2 came out. Witht he v1 you can also order street tuner and be able to tune your car with a laptop...save up for a good wideband O2 sensor to go with it though. Cost is around $200 for a used v1 AP, $195 for the street tuner software and another $200 for a decent wideband that will work with the AP. I got the Innovate LC-1 wideband and have been very happy with it. You can also go the Enginutiy route for almost nothing. Cost is around $90 for a cable and the software is free. It is getting decent, but still does not have the customer support of Cobb. But if you know what you are doing it is an option. As for the t3/t4 it is not a stock mount location turbo. You will need a different up pipe or and adapter as well as a different downpipe and a different MAF housing/intake. Most if not all of these are not particularly well suited for the 2.0 liter WRX. Best advice would be to go with a 2.5 shortblock from a STI, Forester or 06+ WRX. These can be had for as little as $500 and would GREATLY expand the various turbos that you can put on your car. If you do it yourself you can even save some cash and get it done for under $1000. 1) if you get a short ram, it will not fit the t3/t4 setup when you get it. Further, most short rams don't add much, but you might see a bit better spool, however most if not all need to have some tuning done to them, so best to get after engine management. 2) If you go with a bov, at LEAST get one that is a 50/50 and recirculates most of the boost back or you will get some serious rich conditions. Even the 50/50 I had I saw drops down to like 9:1 AFR...stock I see low 10:1. 3) clutch could be good, but the 02s have a notoriously weak transmission that can and will break under power. Best just to leave a stock organic style clutch in there until you have $4000-$5000 to dump into a new transmission or a replacement gear set 4) Good choice! I love the system in my car and can't wait to rework it a little 5) whatever works for ya! Carbon can look good depending on the color of the car. So I am not saying you can't do the stuff you want to your car, just that there are some things and expenses to think about when doing it. Unfortunately the WRX is not a cheap car to modify But the right parts and a decent amount of cash and they can be very fast fun cars.
i dont have to have a t3/t4 i was just asking because i know where i can buy one id just like a bigger turbo so i can spool faster and hold boost better but im just trying to figure out my best path to take for tuning my car i will be buying an 06 sti before next fall so im just gonna tune my wagon a lil till i get that and about the it clutch went out(basically it exploded) at 136k miles o i replaced it all ready with the 6puck ceramic yeah dont know how a clutch goes out in 5th gear 60mph with the cruise control on??????? but it did and fused my clutch assembly together which took 7 plus hours 4 ppl and 2 crowbars to remove we had to separate the transmission from the back of the motor about 3 inches the rotate the pressure plate an remove the bolts to dissemble it
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if anything, shouldn't a larger turbo spool more slowly and later, giving you more power, true, but a much less tractable powerband? I know that cars I've driven/ridden in with large turbos make sick power that comes on like a sledgehammer. Keep that in mind. It can get you in trouble if your suspension and tires aren't up to the power you're making.
kk so ill just keep my turbo and and just mod the stock set up and wait for the sti if any brands or good ideas stand out in ur mind please share ur ideas btw just put the new springs on my car and idk what is up with my rear end some of the bolts holding the rear struts were different sizes............ and the springs in the back looked like they were cut( which would explain my scrubbing problem) anyways the car looks amazing and handles like a completely different car. ill try to post some of my pictures if it will let me and what are the sizes of the bolts and nuts on the rear struts?
