ok, ive done a few things to my car since i got it almost a year, it came with the intake, injen. since then, ive done suspension, exhaust, tuning, new trans and the rear end to match, and the basic of keeping the car up and running to the best of my ability. i really never thought about brakes, but as of last month, it should probably been at the top of the agenda, with the pads coming from a pepboys here in town and the rotors being, well, stock. now there starting to make noise when i stop, and not that squeaking that brakes tend to do, no this is a grinding noise were the pad(s) are slipping and not gripping. i got tired of listening to it, i called ralli spec for help. they offer a kit for my car, and for a little over 400$, i got slotted rotors, hawk hp plus pads, and three bottles of motul fluid. the box should be here next week, and with any luck, ill get it before thanksgiving. we are going up to atlanta thur. to see family and it would be nice to get the brakes done for the ride. i cant wait, now i got to find some new calibers for the front, a pair of 4 pot on ebay for about 500$. what you think? ya or na? well, that about it right now, another part for the car. -William...
I would see how the new pads, rotor, and brake flush feel before spending the $$ on calipers. Check out nasioc because this is debated frequently. I recently switched to Hawk HPS streets from some cheap pads and it made a noticeable difference, slightly better stopping, less fade. I'm still using the stock rotors (66k miles on them), but did flush the fluid and installed stainless steel brake lines, which did improve the pedal feel somewhat. as most will tell you, your driving needs (street, autoX, etc.) will pretty much dictate your braking needs. but for the street, your current setup is probably fine. I'm thinking of upgrading to better front calipers down the road, but that is only if I decide to do more autoX and track the car. good luck jimmy
do i need that little metal clip that goes from inside the wheel well to the outside, it holds the pads in some kinda way, not real sure. but do i need this clip with these pads? im getting a funny sound when braking sometimes, its like a grinding but not, almost like slipping again, but these are new pads and rotors. and they make a lot of squeaking noise at very low speeds. -William...
yeah those are retaining clips, they keeps the pads attached to the calipers, otherwise they are just flopping around in there and rubbing up against the rotor...
