So my car has been taking noticeably longer to crank recently, partly due to the cold, but mostly due to my original battery being 6yrs old.

What does everyone recommend for a replacement battery? I'm not a hardcore racer so I dont need anything ridiculous like a lightweight braille battery, I just want something that will fit in the stock battery holder, crank strong, and last forever. I know Optimas are good, my dad swears by Duralasts. I'm looking for a good compromise between price, performance, and reliability.

    What are you guys running?

My $35 walmart battery has been fine for almost 3 years now.

If you don't want a light-weight battery its your cheapest option.

I purchased a duralast from AutoZone. That thing is awesome. FULL warranty. I was told by the manager at the autozone I bought it at. if it dies in a car accident, it's covered. good enough for me!

    :D

+1 on duralast golds. Optimas are awesome, but overpriced imo.. Diehards and Interstate Platinums are other pretty good choices.

The AutoZone NASCAR ones are always #1 from Consumer Reports...

I'm currently rocking a Duralast gold. Works fine for me. I'm sure Optima makes a superior battery, just not worth the price difference for me.

Interstate has a decent cold crank amp "lighter in weight" battery

I drove a cherokee for awhile that had a duralast in it. It was apparently the original battery, and the car was 10 years old when I got it. It cranked.

I imagine most of the time with batteries you end up paying far out the ass for certain things you don't necessarily need.

    In short, AutoZone FTW

The price isnt that big of a deal once you amortize it...its $100+ item that lasts for years.

I love my Optima. I have to have a sealed battery since mine is in the trunk.

Well, you need to take into account the time value of money. It really depends on what kind of discount rate you're talking about.

But yeah, other than that, good point. :wiggle:

I can make a personal account for Duralast. When I had the Chevy Corsica, I bought a basic battery, but I got one for trucks with another 100 or so CCAmps. I jumpstarted 1/2 ton Fords without even turning on my car. ;p

It also lasted so long I took it out before I had the Corsica taken away. I left it in the garage until I got the Legacy Wagon for my project car 3 years later. It didn't work, so I took it back to the store, they still had the serial number in the computers, and I walked out with a new battery for $12.

    :)
