Let's see how many ways you guys can say "Should have bout a _______"

That way when a noob asks the question, you can give them a useful answer and leave nabisco style flaming here

ouch... that hurts... we don't do that here. We're nice...

the 2.5 is fine. I like how cheap it is and how much torque it makes. yeah, it's not an STi... but at 1/2 the price it's darn strong. And torque is all that matters. HP is for selling cars to teenagers.

I remember something about Will (WJM) making a ton of power out of them with some kinda exhaust combination. I'd say start with an exhaust. Manifold/header and 2.5" all the way back??? I don't know. What's good for those? That should do a lot!?

depends on what you want to use the engine for, the buildup could vary from a high revving high hp engine to something more stroked that 2pt5rs's right hand >.> (rim shot)

That's the kind of response I was looking for!

This is NOT a serious question, BTW!

This wasn't aimed at people like you, one who is actually trying to maintain the integrity of this site, thanks though! But I will call them out if they do it again to another noob!

I thought it might be fun to have a designated "flame the NA" area, just so all that bottled up rage can have a place to go and be aimed at someone besides a noob

Subi, that's what I thought you were getting at. who the hell wastes their money on a 2.5rs? ;P I mean, have you been in Matt's car? It's slower then my dogs, and they are mini dachs. I could crawl faster then his car. LMAO!!

No really, if you want to make more NA power, you forget the NA part and put in a turbo. :)

    ...

Just remember...mine is lighter than his. AND it is stronger built than yours! ;) :p

oh, and it looks a LOT better than EVERYONE'S!!!

if you want a auto cross giant, i recommend doing a stroker buildup. bore it out to a 2.8 some good cams forged everything. a well built 2.5rs is a dangerous opponent on the track and will beat out cars with twice its power. remember in racing you cannot have a better weapon than lightness and good brakes. there is a reason the 22b was built on the rs chassis....

Borla header, random tech high flow cat, and a suitable 2.5" catback will net you about 15~20hp/tq over stock and an additional 2mpg max depending on driving conditions/style/load/wind direction.

ANY aftermarket or ghetto intake on the 2005~2007's are USELESS despite what NASIOC says.

I have proof that what I had was faster than ghetto/aftermarket.

Get a WRX/STi in fender snorkus box and intake duct, install the under hood rubber grommet...done. Ambient air temps at all times instead of HOT ASS engine bay air.

The GP moto or similar elbow that replaces the stock snorkus may add a little power...but I doubt it'll make any difference.

Otherwise...thats all you can do for power right now. TWE headers do not net enough power over the borla's to justify their cost...unless you have a race car.

ECU: Nothing available yet. That should net another 5~15hp/tq depending on mods/tuner/the fuel you use.

With the borla/HFC/catback, the 'modified stock' intake as I call it and running 93 octane at ALL TIMES...it'll keep up with STOCK 02~05 WRXs no problem.

However, HFC means you go to STX...where it is actually more competitive anyhow. I ran STX alot, but I ran STU sometimes as well. I won STU locally several times....in an 05 RS.

The difference from stock cats to HFC's is VERY noticeable.

Once you go beyond the 'stock modded intake' and the exhaust...cams, pistons, port work...etc...it gets VERY expensive VERY fast for VERY LITTLE gain.

Unless you go all out, have a fully explored ECU or a standalone and run C16...you wont make much past 150 at the wheels.

    On that note...

Buy an STi. There's your power.

A lot of people report more power with an equal length header. If you were doing the labor, and had a spare car, you could pull your cams and have them sent to Delta to be reground. That'd be some cheap power.

I was thinking more on the lines of dropping in a V8.........I'll make it fit.

Or maybe a full electric conversion a la tesla roadster: full torque at 1rpm!

Take about 500 lbs. out of the car!

That'll make you about 5/10th's faster in the quarter mile. Ha ha! Old Honda trick....

Will, have you checked out this thread?

    http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1402853

i'd love to work with Enginuity but that's something that's way over my head. i bet there's alot of power to be pulled out of these engines still with management.

    Sweet!

Have SS tune your car. You should pick up 15~20hp/10~15tq at the wheels with supporting mods no problem.

However, dont set those numbers in stone. Thats just going off the Ispeed custom tunes. The Hydra on the DSP car we (us NC autox'er gang) built had like a 25hp/20tq gain over stock ecu on pump gas.

We ended up going back to STS/STX configuration and did a custom Ispeed tune that was about 20hp/15tq.

I love how this thread was set up as a joke but it ended up being one of the more useful threads I have seen about the NA 2.5s...

I heard those two talking about changing the fuel maps around on an NA back in 2006, to use 93 octane instead of 87.

And honestly it wouldn't surprise me if you could use some old WRX parts to help the tune along a little.

(by the way I know the WRX is a turbo car)
