http://blogs.edmunds.com/.eea19ee/cmd.233/enclosure..eea19ef More rumors about the future AWD Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart are circulating. The Ralliart will be a direct competitor to the Subaru WRX in that it will be essentially a detuned EVO, much like the WRX is a (much!) de-tuned STI. Also rumored is a possible 5-door version, similar to the 5-door concept pictured above, that would compliment the 4-door sedan. This is great news for Mitsubishi fans who love the EVO, but who want something a bit less hard-core. Not only that but it 's also great for WRX fans who are not happy with the current Subie. If nothing else, it will spur Subaru to get off their collective butt and turn the WRX into the car it once was again. http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2007/12/2008-mitsubishi-lancer-ralliart.html
Does anyone remember the show viper? This looks identical to the 'pursuit' car they used. It looks just like that car!
Wow, that is much nicer than the Subies. Still not a huge fan of Hatchbacks, but I would definitely take that over the New Subie any day of the week. I am still partial to the Evo X though. It looks badass in all its ugliness.
The "defender FTW!" i use to watch that show anyways.. looks like i found the next car i am buying >.> Hopefully its not too detuned.
Rumors say 240-250 hp. They are intentionally trying to make the car faster and better handling than the WRX, but still be below the Evo. I have read ,I think, that they are using the 02-07 WRX as the comparison car. If true it would eat the new WRX for lunch. Evo 8 drivetrain(for mechanical diffs and such, maybe ACD but no AYC ,etc) + 250hp Evo X motor + the aggressive looks = WRX destroyer... Edit: Wow...I should read the articles. "In both cases however, the Lancer Ralliart will be equipped with a detuned version the EVO X’s new 2.0 litre (Dual Valve VVT) Turbo Engine producing 240 PS coupled with Mitsubishi’s 6-speed Twin Clutch - SST transmission and with a full-time 4WD system with Active Yaw Control and Active Centre Differential" If the US gets the same car, I am sold with that gearbox.
Subaru should be worried too. More power, probably better handling, 6 speed gearbox(DSG style no less), more aggressive styling, all this should make Subaru worry and rethink the WRX.
I'm really surprised to hear about the motor and tranny. I would even give up my WRX to get one of those, because it seems like it would have enormous tuning potential. And aside from having yaw control and some of the other expensive gadgetry it should be able to go fast in a corner or in a straight line.... if all that really comes to be that is.
Tuning potential is completely unknown at this point, since nobody has been able play with the new engine yet. I would probably wait on this until it has been out for a couple of months, to give all the tuners time to play with it. For all we know, it might be like our cars. No longer the "Throw a MBC on it and it takes off" type of deal. Now, if it is detuned from the factory, hopefully, it would be pretty easy to get it up to the standard of a regular Evo X, but that is still a big ? I always thought the Ralliart editions were an upgrade like the Spec C is for us, not a downgrade. Don't they have an Evo RS for this purpose? Why not make the Evo RS the equivalent to the WRX, and the Ralliart an upgrade to the MR?
Exactly. it isn't a 4g63 car. so you cannot treat it like the older evos or dsm's were your main concerns were fuel pump and injector cycle duty % i remember bolting a 3 inch gm Maf with the ramchargers translator box to mine. Hopefully though they designed it with this market of driver in mind. as much as i hate to say it this is a step up for a ralliart car. last one was the lancer OZ **shudders**
xInfinite!!! hahaha..totally not a car I'd even think about buying....sometimes I'm glad I'm so simple minded. lol
Yeah but everything seems to point to it having a detuned Evo X engine. I mean sure they could make an entirely new engine. They did say 2.0 liters though and I seem to remember the little Lancers having a 2.2. It is an entirely different car from the Lancer and the Evo from what I can see but I just feel like it has WAY more potential than it seems to have at first and if it does get a turbo engine with a lot of similarities we might see Ralliarts with as much balls as we saw 2.5 WRX's with before the WRX went all soft on us (just kidding for all you 3rd gen lovers).
Yeah, but we seem to be getting a new wrx every two years. So the 2010 WRX should already have some development time behind it...
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/13/detroit-2008-2009-mitsubishi-lancer-ralliart-were-sold/ Where there she is... It comes standard with the twin clutch 6 speed gearbox from the Evo X. It has Evo 9's AWD system. I am sold, where do I sign up?
