kinda new to the subie world i have an 07 impreza wagon 2.5rs any suggestions? iv installed an sti short throw shifter and a full catback exhaust system what can i do as far as ecu tuning goes?
Its an RS...non turbo With the NA motor, short of some sort of forced induction, you arent going to get any big gains out of anything. A full exhuast (Header on back), and an intake will help a lot, but you aren't going to see the gains that the turbo people are getting.
For 2.5 NA advice head on over to www.rs25.com They are brilliant over there. I'm not so knowledgeable about the 07's in fact from some dyno's I've seen, a cosmo intake might serve you quite well. Tuning wise, you have stand alone or piggy back. The piggyback systems I would recommend are the e-manage ones, I've never had one but the alternative Perfect Power 6, which I did have, is crap. In all honesty though, there's not a huge amount of power to be made out of NA on Subaru's.
MY advice, having almost the same car, get suspension mods and new tires! There is a LOT you can do in that direction and it makes it way more fun to drive. But Will (WJM) is right, and he would know. Anyway, post up some pics of your wagon when you can!
Couldn't agree more. I hate it when I/someone gets something expensive new and then people piss on my/their parade. He has all wrx/sti people beat on insurance and gas. Would also give a stock wrx wagon a bloody good run around an autocross track!
nabisco.. this place is getting just like it http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a378/GLwagon/member105763.jpg (warning: above img url not safe for this without a sense of humor)
+1 On that. Keep it positive and friendly! Like mom says. If you cant say anything nice.... That engine has alot of potential. Scott Siegel FTW Welcome to the forums and enjoy!
welcome man! and btw i want to see pics of the hot new ride! i need something new to drool over **giggles**
Congrats man! The 2.5RS are hella fun to drive. That said, focusing on the suspension and applying some mild power mods could make that puppy an autocross machine. Enjoy! I wanna see pics too. And yeah, we need to stop telling everyone to go buy an STi. Not everyone has that kinda scratch laying around. I know I had some hellacious backroad fun in my showroom stock '03 Forester back in the day.
Bro, you got a 2.5 NA and I aint mad at ya. Since it seems like you want to keep it I say go for it. Not everyone can afford an STi. Hell I had the money saved up, in the bank from being in Iraq back in 2006 but I was smart enough to know I didn't need to blow my whole wad on one thing. Anyway... Like I love to say, sway bars are my favorite mod for ANYTHING on wheels. Usually they aren't extremely expensive and the difference they make in a corner is absolutely like night and day. In fact if I ever owned a minivan I'm pretty sure I'd try to put sways on it too! Ha ha... Tires are one of the best ways to improve performance but if you can't improve your performance every 20,000 miles like most of us you'll be better of going with something that will work with less than stickers. Honestly, I wish I had gone with sway bars before I bought my coilovers because I might have actually just kept with the stock springs and struts. Cliffs: bluetwo says swaybars FTW!! :bigthumb:
I remember reading on nasioc about a guy with an RS who continued to DD the car while he was building up a monster 2.5. Lower car payments and insurance with an RS compared to an STI, I'd say its an even better base than a WRX since you get the car without any notion of keeping the original engine or tranny. Not enough power to break the 5spd and by the time you've got a better motor you also could save enough for a proper 6spd swap. Not the best idea but at least then you've got a reliable car for as long as you want to keep stock power levels. Otherwise its still a great autox car.
No comment...:eek3: didnt you just get engaged? back on topic I say suspension mods! struts, springs and sways to start! You should notice a huge difference with those mods and they are enjoyable with any amount of power a car puts out.
