Temperature as in it's cold outside. As I went to lunch today, I noticed something a bit odd. Our parking deck is 3 stories and sometimes park on the 3rd level. What I noticed is that the car felt like it was dragging as I was just coasting down the deck. It seem to get better as I drove a little more. And as a comparison, I challenged my co-worker to a coasting race. He has an 05 saloon and I have an 05 wagon. He beat me. We both have about the same mileage except I had the rear diff replaced a couple of months ago under warranty. Would this make a difference? Or does this sound like something else? Then, there is the gas mileage issue. My co-worker said he is averaging over 300 miles per tank. The highest I've gotten is 280. Mostly around 260. Don't know if the above issue has anything to do with this. We both have about the same commute (city and highway). But, I somehow believe it's comes down to aerodynamics and the way we drive. Oh shit, I have a roof rack too. But, I'm really not that aggressive in driving. Unless it's raining. Kind of fun getting the back end out. Oh, we both have aftermarket exhausts. I have a Stromung 3" CBE and he has an Invidia G200 3" CBE. We both have K&N air filters and no other mods. Might try a tank without the rack to see if that helps. Thanks!
This is the weirdest thread i've ever seen... 280 is a good tank for me!!! And who the hell challenges someone to a "coasting race"... are you kidding? I think you're cool, but for shits and giggles did he have an AWD car? if not, that's your problem. An AWD car has significantly higher drive train loss of drag. That's why we're slower in the 1/4 mile and stuff... wait.... Did I just fall into a trap, or is this legitimate? Are there hidden cameras looking at me????!!!
Yes, same car. Different body. I just wanted to see if we gained speed at the same pace. Should have set up a slalom for S&G's. He suggested that since the rear diff is new, that maybe there is more grease packed in there. I dunno. And if 280 is good then, uh, good.
I have an '03 with a CBE. Most of my driving is on the hwy, and I normally average around 300-330 a tank.
