Hi Guys. I want to know more about this event at Roebling: SCCA DOUBLE DRIVERS SCHOOL BUCCANEER REGION Anyone ever been to it? How much does it cost? Any restrictions/rules to make note of? The track's site doesn't give much info. Thanks!
Sorry, I don't know much at Roebling Road. You could try getting a of Hazzard on this board since he's part of the local SCCA chapter. Maybe go here: http://www.buccaneerregion.com/
The double school is to get your SCCA Road Racing License. You need an SCCA Road Race legal car (it has to be caged with a fire bottle and battery shutoff). SCCA requires the completion of two schools to get your probationary license, the double schools let you do two schools in one weekend. Siegel
Road Racing is expensive.... I believe when I was looking at this school it was $400. If you want to road race you should buy my H Production CRX roller. Caged and all ready to get minus the engine, tranny, and saftey equipment... ok it would be alot of work but it's cheap. FYI If you want to do SCCA club racing you do have to be a SCCA member. I also do believe you need to get a physical as well. Here are the step by step instruction on how to start club racing: http://www.scca.com/contentpage.aspx?content=43 I priced it out and I'd only be able to afford four race weekends a year with no autoxing on the side. Right now that doesn't seem like enough fun to me. If I ever have the budget to do a fuller season I'd be there; however right now I'm more than challenged with competition at national level solo. Good luck! Edit: I'd ask Siegel or another veteran club racer if you are serious!
i know that the buccaneer region tries to have one autocross event at Roebling per season. in the past it has usually been in october, but looking at the local scca site (that was posted by Pomorski) the schedule isn't up yet. this autocross event only uses 1/2 of the track, but it is still lots of fun. I have also heard of people racing at Roebling through http://www.seat-time.com if you are interested. might i also suggest trying out an autocross or two. click on the Solo link at http://www.buccaneerregion.com/
Thanks for all the info guys. I've done a few autocrosses in the past, and have determined that there isn't enough time during an autocross to break my bad habits Quite simply, by the time the "oh this is fun" wears off, I'm about out of runs and haven't improved anything. I'm interested in trying some road course stuff, but not to the extent of having to install a road cage, so this event doesn't sound like what I'm looking for. Thanks!
^^^ I didn't think this was. What I think you are looking for is HPDE - High Performance Driver Education. (I run a small driving school - www.siegelracing.com) but there are MANY groups - NASA, SCCA, Porsche Club of America, BMW CCA, PBOC, Seat-Time, Chin Motorsports, etc that ALL run HPDE's on Roebling and elsewhere... Check out some of those. Siegel edit - just saw that Hazzard had the Seat-Time link posted. That's a good way to get some serious track time for your money.
Here are my suggestions: Get a dedicated instructor, not somebody that will ride with you at one autox and then never give you advice again. Buddying-up with a good driver at every event will consistantly improve your level every event and also your "buddy" will know what bad habbits to look for. I co-drove my fun run sessions with Clay (Rexrocker) almost every event last year and I can seriously say he's worlds better than I was after my first year of autoxing. I've never talked to Kevin Kipta but I know he's a really fast drivier in your Region. Most people don't mind buring up your tires for free either, I usually butter up people for advice by giving them a red bull, water or gatorade. Take a evolution driving school (about $200). You'll get a full day of seat time and if you have a bad habit it will be broken during this school. The instructors for the evo school are usually multi-time national champs or trophy winners. When I took the school I got Jonathan Roberts as my instructor whom is IMHO one of the best autoxers in a subaru ever. I remember one instructor (Rob Falkner) actually turning peoples helmets to make them look ahead. Travel to get more seat time. In the end autox/solo is about "getting it done in 3 runs", so you have to travel to other regions to get more events under your belt. Last year I did 50 days of autox with only about 25 of thoses events local. You are decently close to Dixie Region (FYI Tom Austin is a hell of a driver in that region) and they have a great location in Valdosta GA. I used to do track days but in the end I liked the price of solo better. I do have to say Roebling Road is one of the safer tracks I've been too. Good luck!
If you want Road Course instruction Scotts school is awesome, I highly recommend it. When you get more serious about going fast Scott and I both offer private instruction. Matt
