Where is IAT measured?

Its measured at the MAF right? How close should that be to the outside air temp?

I did some logging when it was around 30 degrees today. I saw IAT up to 80 degrees while doing city driving. That normal?

It is measured at the maf.
Are you running the stock intake setup?

While moving at moderate speeds...30mph+...it should be within 10 degrees of the ambient outside temp.

Yeh it stayed around 43 while on the highway.

I had an after market short ram for a while. I ditched it when I logged intake temps of 170+ while sitting in the staging lane at the strip.

With the short ram my intake was sitting over the collector on my gtspec header. Obviously thats not good.

    SERIOUSLY get rid of it.

Put a stock airbox, snorkus and duct on it. WORLDS of improvement.

The stock induction system, inlet pipe included, it NOT a restriction until you want over 350whp.

    So...find a stock setup.

You could consider ducting for the stock airbox, I know WJM mentioned it but I dont think he elaborated on it at all. Many people run ducting from their pass. side fog light (with the lamp removed) up to their airbox.

no kidding at all. now hop to it!

I ran a duct hose to my airbox and thew a MAF sensor high voltage code...

Needless to say but my intake is fully stock once again...

OK, ok. I've been doing some digging around about this, since I prefer not to work while at work. There seem to be a lot of arguments out there about the COBB (which is actually what I have) and SPT short rams having little effect on fuel curve and MAF readings as compared to the stock box. So is the main issue the heatsoak? Hit me with it.

    heat soak is one thing.

However, to be 100% sure you need to install the stock stuff back on. It can only help.

any changes pre and post (not so much post) MAF will effect airflow
the molded MAF housing is designed and the ECU has a specific table for that configuration/design. when you change the shape of the tube or size or how the air gets to the MAF sensor you are asking it to adapt to your changes - THE ECU has already specific instructions to do that for the stock - unless your tuner changes the MAF scaling table you are feeding the ECU wrong info and it cant adapt

Right, I understand all of that, but from what I've seen from browsing around, supposedly all of this was taken into account with the design of the COBB and SPT short rams, and backed up by testing. That just BS I'm picking up?

The SPT intake is junk. I have experienced it first hand on lots of cars.

Any short ram is pretty well junk. Its just a hot air intake and all the SPT unit is, is a generic short ram that SPT put their name on and paid an outrageous amount of money for.

Just stay with the stock setup bro! I have tried several different setups (which the ecu will learn...or adjust for) and found that the stock setup is the best. I noticed it take a very short bit longer for spool but the gas milage is much better with the stock intake...

Word up... who wants a COBB short ram?

So we're talkin stock air box, resonator and and inlet duct? The whole deal.

    Yep.

    Ebay the shortram.

Quick question, how much of a pain in the ass is it to reinstall the resonator?

Not hard. Use jack. Have patience.
