Anyone bought springs on ebay? I'm wondering if the teins or skunk2 springs are worth getting. Any experience with either of these?
Teins(assuming their S-techs) are pretty much frowned upon on this forum and IWSTI... Can't speak for Skunk2.. I'd stick with tried and true...Prodrives(which I didn't care for but are very popular), JDM pinks, RCE, Tanabe, Cobb...
I bought a set of S-Techs on Ebay and love them. I don't know why they're frowned upon, I've had nothing but good experience with them..
S-techs are good if you want your car to look good, and I can guarantee that EJREX's car look much nicer than mine does on stock or the new pink springs I got. S-Techs are bad if you are looking for a performance upgrade: they lower the car so much that you actually lose negative dynamic camber, and they do not significantly increase the spring rate to compensate. That and if you drive on crappy roads, there may not be enough travel to keep you from riding your bumpstops and damaging suspension parts. There is an entire thread on them here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1267918 Again, the s-techs are GREAT if you just want to get rid of wheel gap. Then again, this is why people consider coilovers: you can adjust height and damping and get a good adjustment for looks and performance. Whether or not any mod is "good" or not depends greatly on what exactly you want to get out of the mod. It really helps when you tell us more about your goals for you mods
I wont get springs from ebay - especially Teins Teins have a lot of quality issues due to immitations Pay a tad more for a piece of security and support
I had H-Tech's and they were great!!. I bought them new from a private seller on NASIOC. I am actually going with STi pinks this time for the FXT. Mark
The Honda Fit's a great grocery getter that's for sure. It's really my wife's car. The car pulls pretty quick in 3rd and 4th gears. It's a five speed automatic with paddle shifters on the column. For a small hatchback you sure can fit a ton of stuff in the thing. It's already been used for grocery runs, hauling lumber, and making ikea runs. This Honda is actually built more solid than my Impreza! But I didn't buy my car for the interior or the trim, I bought it for the all wheel drive and the fun times to be had out there on the mountain roads around where I live.
I'm really looking for performance but I'd also like the front gap to look proportional to the rear. I hate the front wheel gap!
I just put a set of prodrive springs on my wagon. They got rid of the wheel gap and the ride is really smooth. I do get some rub when someone sits in the back and I take a sharp turn but I also have 18 inch wheels. They are alittle more expensive than the tein springs but I think well worth it.
Teins traditionally over lower the car and provide mediocre results in the handling department. I would recommend a set of STi pink springs or Swifts. As with most things, you get what you pay for
shameless plug.... I have STI takeoffs and a set of brand new RCE Yellows version 1 yellows for sale... pm for details...
Let me find that link to the spring rates chart..... Here we go, even though it in the sticky already:http://www.wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5410 According to the chart: number are lbs/in Subaru WRX STi USDM stock 224 195 (STi takeoffs) Prodrive P1 (GC) 215 195 Subaru STi "pink" WRX sedan 223 192 Subaru STi "pink" WRX wagon 223 192 As you can see they are all similar in spring rates, look at the original chart for the approximate drop on these, but remember that drop can vary from car to car. If I were you and had a Sedan I would go for the STi takeoff springs, I got the pink springs because they make a wagon-specific version.
Check out this list of springs with fitment info and drop. http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=plg1Ea3xR9HfIsfeL_KhwEw&gid=1 Also, look into swaybars. The FSB nvswrx has for sale is great, I have it on my car and I think it has provided the biggest and most noticeable improvement in handling out of the mods I have done so far.
