Yeap, this means 1 of 2 things. Either this car was ringer and the ones that some magazines got earlier are the true performance or the first review cars were still pre-production and not finished and this review car was done. We hope for the latter cause then Mitsubishi did a great job finishing the car.

I look forward to getting my hands on the Ralliart or the MR this summer. The more I learn and read about their dual clutch gearbox the more I want it. I would say the same about the STI but I don't think I will be able to drive cars with 3rd pedals much longer. Damn Knee...

    OMGBBQ EV0 FTW ;)

I wouldn't take a used m3 over an sti, evo or even an r32.

OMGBBQ = trigger to get WJM out of his cave

I do think that the evo is a much better looking car though, but I do love the functionality of 5 doors.

I agree. The Evo X does look better.

After driving a RX8 any car with a real back seat and a real trunk will be nice. 5 Doors is not really needed for me. I am used to a divided rear seat(read: useless most of the time) and 7 cubic feet of trunk.

BTW, 2 of those 3 cars have a dual clutch gear box as an option(might be standard on the R32). Admittedly the Evo with the dual clutch gearbox will cost nearly $40K.

Edit: 7 cubic feet isn't the real problem but the opening to the trunk is tiny. Even a medium sized duffel is a bitch to get in there. I didn't buy it for being practical. ;)

If mitsu was more reliable.. id consider them

but honestly sti vs 135i vs 335i vs g37.. are the cars that will be considering in the coming year prob the best cars under 40k

Well I reread the article and the Evo and STi were actually really close in the straight line department. The main thing they picked on with the STi was the steering feel and understeer (duh on the latter). I don't know, it's highly doubtful that I will ever own any of these 08 cars, but if I were to buy one, I'm somewhat sad to say that I'd definitely go with the Evo.

Sad to say the Evo's got my vote too. Subaru sold out to the mainstream: Refined, tame, all the "bells and whistles", no frills, not toooooo much performance....... Who can blame them they're in it for profit. Unfortunately or fortunately, I should say I am not the main stream. Glad I have my Bugeye. Looks like the 07's were the end of an era.

Why is it that the same Ej25 that was rewarded as one of the best motors in the world a few years ago is being bitched at for being unresponsive below 4K revs? Did they do anything to lower the lowend response?

    What?

The term "EJ25" encompases an ENTIRE range of engines that are related only due to the terms 'subaru, aluminum, flat-4, EJ25 stamping, uses oil for lubrication'

    You've got:

EJ25D (1996 spec, 1997~1999 and in that 1998~1999 span they changed block designs to suit phase 2 transmission bolt up as well as some other things)
EJ251 (Unknown total range of production, SOHC, Fed and Calif)
EJ253 (2000~2005, SOHC, Fed and Calif)
    EJ253 (2006+ SOHC, Fed and Calif w/VVL)
    EJ255 (2004~2006, Forester/WRX/Outback XT, Baja, LGT)
EJ255 (2006+, Forester/WRX/Outback XT, Baja, LGT...features smog pumps and other emissions BS along with 'improved cooling' for 2007+ engines)
    EJ257 (2004~2006, STi engine)
EJ257 (2007+ STi engine. Features smog pumps, 'improved cooling' and some other BS)

There are still more variants, but thats the basic list.

None of those are 'unresponsive' below 4k. Unless someone's idea of unresponsive is 'it needs to rev above 4k.' In which case they are freaking TARDS. FUCKERS: The EJ255 falls on its fast past 5k with the stock turbos (VF40/TD04L13G).

The EJ25D, 96 spec in my outback will YANK YOUR MUTHERFUCKING HEAD OFF out of the hole. Someone tell me its not responsive. It's also got top end. 150mph BITCHES. In a WAGON.

I'll take one of these and lay the smack down to all of those play toys:

Mitsubishi's warranty is absolutely terrible. The safety of the car is absolutely terrible (although I haven't seen any testing done on the new one, going off previous model years). If its anything like the previous EVO's the reliability of this one is also going to be terrible :) I am surprised the car made it out of the factory with all the problems they were having. Oh, and one more thing--the dash of the EVO is equivalent to a GEO Metro.

Buy an 04/05 STi and call it a day :)

Bah! You could not pay me to drive a Mitsubishi. And I have no desire for any sort of SMG/dual clutch/testicle removing transmission. I am happy with my 3rd petal. Granted I have not seen a new EVO, but the new Lancers look cheap and crappy on the road (WHAT?!? a mitsu looking cheap). I would not call the new WRXs ugly, but they are painfully plain. The VW is not even on my radar... If you are looking at new cars, I don't think there is much in the AWD/Turbo market that is very catchy. Luckily I won't be needing a new car for awhile anyway!

MotorTrend seemed to have a different view on those two cars than car and driver...

    0-60:
    EVO X GSR - 5.2
    WRX STI - 4.7

    Braking - 60-0:
EVO X GSR - 115ft i think (with bigger brakes but 190lbs heavier)
    WRX STI - 109ft

Though the evo did pull a better skid pad with .99g while the STI did .94g i think

Yeah, thats the article i read keegan..

I know another mag did the same thing and ended up with the sti beating the evo in 0-60 ...
    60-0
and around the track total time.

Throw some new sways on the sti and we'll see what happens...

hmmmm curious what would happen when you change of the suspension/vehicle dynamics (like sways) on the EVO with that AYC...possible something similar to control a prelude SH around a corner when VTEC kicks on and off LOL

    What happens with the Preludes?

The problem is the SH feature which is basically the yaw control for a front wheel drive vehicle, it gives extra power to the outside wheel while making a turn...literally pulling you around the corner. Well not that VTEC is that big of a kick, it does produce a surge in torque. So normally around a corner, the SH is helping you out, but when VTEC kicks in the car begins to pull to the inside and then the SH tries to compensate and backs off its effect, meanwhile you are trying to figure out which way the car is going to start going and adjust your steering angle and it ends up in a very uneven and unpredictable line around the corner...oh yeah and it added like 100 some lbs i think to the front of the car.

Or a used RS4. I'm looking to score a client's of mine when his car comes off lease in 2009. Saw the car the other day and has barely 25k on it and two years old.

If you scan down to the bottom of that page, there are other links that are pretty cool. One of the links hints at VW re-releasing the Scirroco soon.

Ha! I got the 5.2 0-60 time of the EVO X GSR matched NOW in my '05 Wrx, Sweet! Just need to find a Dyno.

The Evo is a better looking car all around I think, but as Alex said the company basically has a bad rep. I like the VIII the best...
