So I was thinking about going with some crowler cams what do yall think.I want some input. here is a video on youtube with some http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4DNoPUf3B0
lol i think it sounds amazing. but i was wondering the perfromance of it, i have never heard anything.
I'd recommend stock STi cams, intake and exhaust, before the Crowers. STi cams: Version 6 Type R/RA or the USDM EJ257/255.
thanks Will, just what im looking for. I dind't want to sound stupid by asking. But it seemed to be something different and it seems like most wrx's are running the same setup. just seeing whats out there!
ya. Most aftermarket cams are not worth the trouble unless you get them custom spec'd (expensive) from an EXCELLENT cam maker....most of the time its the small driveability stuff that they affect...so for a DD I wouldnt do more than those V6 STi cams or the EJ255/257 cams. If you've got a race car...thats a different story.
yeah thanks. i wouldn't mind having some extra power. Im just not sure how much more my car can make with the setup. I was wanting 450whp but......... so.
Keep in mind that in general the bigger you go with the cams the more power it will make but it will also make less torque...in most cases. You can run the DPR stage 1 and 2 cams with stock valvetrain I believe. If you really want to do it right though you are going to want at least a stage 3 cam and a nice Ferrea valvetrain. Once you put a nice valvetrain in you can use a two step without having to worry about it. If you have never ridden in a car with a two step its lots of fun. Matt
Cams are a big part of the reason my brothers bugeye made over 500whp on pump...cams are great they are just expensive. What turbo are you running?
http://www.dprracing.com/prod&serv/Camshafts/camshafts.htm Oooo...I want the stage 5's. my question is: Are their STi cams AVCS compatible?
Thats whats in the Bugeye, they are AVCS compatible and they have them for both the usdm and jdm heads. Jeremys heads are Version 7 RA Spec C heads with DPR stage 5 cams.
I shouldn't say they make less torque they just make it in a different way. Instead of making a big peak number and then falling off they make less peak but they hold the torque that they do make longer. Cams are really complicated and it would take me all day to explain it correctly. It has a lot to do with overlap (amount of time both valves are open). The smaller cams develop more cylinder pressure early in the rpm range, which is mostly due to them having less overlap and to some effect less lift.
the car made 369whp when it was at topspeed. the turbo kit is the ultimate racing t3/t4s turbo kit. If i would have built the car.... not what i would have used. but its what i got so. ithought about meth i just would really love to get 450hwp without it
Thats a really good turbo on these cars. You can always send it back to Precision and have it upgraded. If you do cans you could probally do a bigger backside.
Yeah i have no problems at all with the turbo its great i would have just went with something different. I love the setup. I just want to know how to make 450 on the turbo without meth. The turbo is rated to 550 so i dont think i will need to upgrade.
Anything is possible with the right $$$. Like my daddy always said... Speed costs money. How fast can you afford to go?
If you have a stock bottom end that is asking for a lot. The reason I say that is if you have one bad detonation event even while tuning it at that level you are going to break a ring land. At least with a forged piston you can take it to the ragged edge and back it down. If I wanted that kind of power on pump here is what I would build...this is just my opinion so take it for what it is worth. Rods and Pistons 2.5, Ported Heads with BIG cams stage 4 or 5 DPRs they are the biggest out there. Full-Race Manifold or something custom...Turbo wise I honestly doubt you will get there with that turbo, but with a custom turbo from Precision...something in the 35R range you should. The problem with Subarus Stock Cams suck The heads have a dogleg port that doesn't flow as much as the other port so you get reversion The exhaust manifold is garbage. You will spend a lot I mean a lot of money chasing a number don't get hung up on the 450 number. Throw some cams in it and make 430-430whp on pump and be happy.
well the reason i was asking is because my car is at topspeed and they are going to have to put a new 2.5 block and 2.0 heads back in it cause somebody at a delearship threw a rod through my block. so i was thinking this would be the time to do something if i wanted to. so over 400 on my turbo isn't possible? thanks for the help
Damn, I wish someone from the dealership would throw a rod through my block so I could get a new 2.5...
