http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1438419 way cool little path utility for the opensource people.
Yupper I got my USDM launch control code will be installing it sometime next week. and having some fun keep an eye on the knock light (signal)hes coming out, using the CEL signal Hope he gets to allocate some memory where he can store when it occurs so its easier to look on the ROM to correct
Flash type launch control sucks. The magic of the AEM launch control is that there is a whole seperate map for it. So you can dump in some more fuel and pull out some timing to get the egts up and spool the turbo without spinning the motor at 8000rpms on the line. Just ditch the flash B.S. and buy a real ecu, you have too much money tied up in your car to be running this flash garbage. Matt
This is an actual change to the logic of the stock ecu programming which the stock ecu is quite capable of doing. Ecutek and Cobb both now have launch control. Cobb is only for the 32 bit ecu's but Ecutek has had it for the older v7 JDM ecu's for quite a while. I personally would never use launch control but thought it may be an interesting option for those that want it. Besides it will probably only get me more shortblock swaps to do and I can earn enough to for some race wheels and tires
The problem with even Cobbs launch control is that even it is just an artifical rev limiter, there is no timing or fuel control which is where all the magic in launch control comes from. My brothers bugeye has gone a low 1.6 60 foot on a 18g before, right before it broke an axle. That was on the AEM
You can do it well with the stock ECU...but no one wants to hear my theory. The fuel cut rev limiter 'launch control' is bull shit. Its breaks engines. Presently, the AEM is better.
You're always listening. Ignition timing retard. I discovered this by accident when playing with Fisher Price's My First ECU. I didnt want just a fuel cut limiter, I was playing with the two step limiter...ignition retard then fuel cut...well, i had improperly set it up and it did only IG retard...the ECU's max retard value was 12 deg. Since the map was only setup for 12deg at 6500, it was effectively 0 deg of timing there. So, the engine would rev TO 6500, and seemingly stop. If you held it there for one second...BOOM! instant 15psi. Once it built over 8psi, it would start to rev again... Then I side stepped it and viola! launch. With the fuel cut limiter, it would'nt build more than 3~5 psi and would bog on launch. I've seen big turbo cars build 10~12...but not the best launch. If one could modify the ecu to pull a number greater than 12...say, an amount limited only by the ultimate software/hardware limitations...it would be total awesomeness. You could hold it there for as long as 5 seconds w/no RPM increase. Anything more and I'm sure its bad for things. It would be a 2 fold 'launch control'....rev and anti lag. It worked very well on the RX despite not being able to switch it on-off as I wanted a 4000 launch point. 6000~6500 was too much wheel spin for cool/cold autox tires. The street tires had better longitudinal grip at any temp so the 6500 launch was best.
You could do the same with stock ecu. Just need to run a wire from the clutch switch to the ecu. Then make some changes in a few of the fuel and timing tables. Wala push the clutch the switch sends a signal to ecu that makes it run a retarded timing and add fuel. Then floor the car and watch the boost build on the two step.
I guess with enough programing you could make it use one of the alternate fuel or ignition tables, but as far as I know no one has done it. Matt
Its actually really easy, I have in the past used it for a race map. With the flip of a switch I can change boost, timing, and fuel.
I've hit 1.6 60 foot several times on my car but they were high 1.6's. Launch control scares me....I have three friends with RSX's that had launch control and all three burnt their cars to the ground. However they were idiots staying into it for a while to watch the cool flames and melted something under the hood to start a fire. One friend was a local that had an entire FullRace GT35R kit that just simply went to waste.
