Which exhaust?

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and new to subarus. I just recently bought an '07 sti and am looking for that notorious grumble sound. The car is a daily driver and dont really care as much about the power gains or making this thing as fast as I can...at 300hp Im already having trouble keeping it slow, especially on the highway:) . Anyways, I was looking into the SPT exhaust and intake for my need for the sound. I like the fact that it is a subaru part and has no effect on the warranty and can get it installed right at the dealership. I am also looking at a Cobb CBE as well but was leaning towards the SPT. Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh and also I just moved to cobb county if anyone is in the area let me know

^^^ Yeah, lots of good choices. I think you can get more for your money than SPT though.

Guess it depends how loud you want to get. I've got a Stromung CBE which I really like. Not too loud, and I've read that it sounds like the Cobb. A co-worker has the Invidia G200 (a little louder), but sounds really good too.

And I work in Cobb County. I'm near the Cumberland Mall area.

    Welcome aboard!

If you are all about sound, you should get the intake. Otherwise I wouldn't bother. The stock airbox is good unless you get a huge turbo, and though the intake might make the cool intake noise, generally you lose power b/c even though you are moving more air you end up pulling more air from the hot engine bay. The hotter intake air means less power (damn thermodynamics). This is called heat soak. If you aren't heartset on getting an intake, I would save the money towards something better... like the Cobb Access Port (AP). The AP comes with pre loaded ECU maps that are by far the best bang for your buck.

My Invidia CBE is going to be for sale very soon. It is 3" all the way through. Not the loudest, but I needed something quieter so I bought a STi exhaust.

Save some $$ and buy mines. PM me!

Face and I are both cobb county locals...hit us up.

Yes don't bother with the intake...most people will recommend you stick with the stock airbox because...it rulez.

There are many cat-backs available. It shouldn't have any bearing on warranty in my opinion... but technically it could. Choosing one depends on the look and sound you're looking for, most cat-back exhausts will increase that subie rumble, which is caused by the unequal length header subaru's come with. Take a look at that link that face posted to see what everyone is running. Turbo XS FTW. And ask to take a ride with some people, i know face and I would be happy to oblige. You'll get to hear real world sound which is better than imagining it.

I think more people have told me NOT to get an intake, unless it is the APS cold air intake. I saw the SPT exhaust on subarugenuineparts.com for $485, figured that was cheap compared to the cobb that ive seen for around $650. From what Im learning Cobb seems to be very reputable with subarus, coming from german cars this subaru stuff is all new to me. Is there anything wrong with the SPT exhaust or do people just prefer the aftermarket stuff? After watching some youtube vids I think I'm leaning towards the cobb, but also found that Indivia G200 which kinda looks appealing too

All I know is there is alot of choices...they'll all make power guaranteed (as long is they are 3in piping all the way back), but the exhaust level (dB) will be different. Some have 1 or 2 resonators that dampen the sound while others are truely a straight through design with little to muffle the sound.

Cobb makes very good stuff, their AccessPort V2 is probably the best engine management product available to date for the subaru.

Oh and if you're wanting to learn more about your car, this is by far the best and most informative thread about a 2.5l subaru...it goes over everything!!!

There are certainly tons of options if you seek the boxer rumble.

Ultimate racing makes great parts, as does Invidia. TurboXS is very popular, but I don't know much about them.

However, if you don't want anything too loud, I tell you now stay away from Ansa. They're well priced and certainly high quality but they are loud as f***. One of the forum members, RamblinWRX has an ansa catback, and it sounds awesome, it's just louder than your typical open downpipe. Also famously loud is the Blitz Nur Spec R.

I'd look into the cobb if I were you. It's a kickass piece. I want one. But it won't fit. :(

I don't know what your financial situation is, but I would consider buying one used on the boards. That goes for just about anything you are looking for... APs, Exhausts, Up Pipes, Down Pipes, ect. You may not get EXACTLY what you want, but you can get parts for 50-75% off list. I have had a positive experience when I have bought anything off this board. Not to mention you can usually go check out whatever you are buying while it is still on a car to make sure everything is kosher. Just my 2 cents...

yeah just make sure you arent like me, and buy stuff BEFORE getting pics (what a dumb move).

Ive only purchased two items used EVER for my WRX and they were both beat to shit. Granted they were good deals but they will not be installed.

So, look at the parts before you buy them.

Ya, thats why I prefer to buy local, that way you can take a look at it before you hand over the cash, and everybody on WRXATL for the most part is a pretty good person. I personally have been lucky and everything I have bought has been in excellent/good shape.
