Alright, so my car pulls like a mofo in first, but by the time I hit around 3k in 4th gear it's like I'm barely driving. Acceleration in 5th? Forget about it. I'd like to at least even it out, if not make my car pull as hard in 4th and 5th as it does in 1st-3rd. Thanks, kids.
Is there a cure? I imagine that my swapped engine will have the same problem (assuming I get around to that)
Which Swap are looking at? I have a VF39 on a 2.0L and all I got is top end... Its kinda like VTEC. Only I actually have torque.
header catless 2.5 all the way back Factory cold air induction 05+ TQ box and induction system (larger diameter stuff) Boom. You'll get pulled over for 130 in a school zone cuz you looked at the skinny pedal the wrong way.
the last part was sarcasm. However, said mod list will net 10hp/10tq at the wheels on average. The induction system *MAY* add 5hp/5tq and it *WILL DEFIANTLY* improve the throttle response by 11ty billion.

^^ thanks. Okay so either that EJ20 or headers (pricey), catless (not too pricey) and 2.5...exhaust pipe diameter, right? I know it won't pull how it does in first, but it doesn't pull AT ALL.

from a factory 05 N/A 4cyl for the box and ducting. the WRX/STi from 2002~2007 for the cold air induction.
Dude, i still dont get what you are trying to say/ask. But if you do the prescribed mods (header, cat-pipe, catback), you will NOTICE a difference in 5th compared to now. It will not be a LARGE or DRASTIC improvement, but it will be noticeable. 1-2-3 will be a large improvement. MPG will improve as well +2 on interstate on good days. Otherwise, 1 to 1.5 on average.
Seriously, if you are thinking about a motor swap anyway, have you thought about a 50 shot of nitrous? ~$600 for the setup, maybe a bigger fuel pump and BAM ooldles more power. And if you happen to blow up your motor, then you have a reason to get a swap!
It's hard to make you have more topend in 5th because it's just a really long gear. It's made for good highway mpg while you have short 1-4 gears for autocross goodness. I've got just about every n/a mod you can get and my 5th still sucks. But 1-4 is fun as shit.
also, an EJ20 header is different than the 2.2 or 2.5 header.....get a header for an EJ25 and you'll be set.

diff between catted and catless on a 2.5" cat pipe is maybe 1hp/1tq on a stock N/A 2.5 or 2.2. STi muffler vs straight pipe is maybe 2hp/2tq at most....at MOST.
I figured thats what you meant. But depending if he's buying or doing custom exhaust catless might be cheaper.
