Tuning here is always $159.99 per hour. The openecu saves you money on not having to buy EM, but it takes notable longer to tune...

openecu is not a flash method.

romraider does not flash, it only edits ROMs with definitions.

EcuFlash 1.34 is the way to go. It flashes and edits ROMs with definitions. It does a SUPER FINE job of it too.

    Smartass.

Why is it that the open ecu guys get all offended when people talk about Cobb being better. Honestly I've had this discussion with people so many times I just don't want to have it again.

Open ECU works ok, there are still tables that Cobb has access to that the open ecu stuff does not yet. I like the little hand held unit that comes with the cobb it makes switching maps easier.

At the end of the day its up to you. Lets just say that it takes 2 hours longer to tune which probably isn't a stretch. Thats 300 buck you could put towards an AP....how many times are you going to have it retuned, 3 or 4 as you switch parts on down the road. Its probably going to pay to get the Cobb.

Do the research and make the decision for yourself, opinions are like assholes...everyone's got one.

Its not really much info, I find that if you ask people questions about open ecu you usally get a bunch of answers and none of them are right. I looked into it and honestly I don't like it. I think its fine under 450whp but cars that have been flashed over 450-500 never drive like they should. There are some exceptions to that rule. Dans STI at Batlground is one of the smoothest cars I've ever driven period, some of the stuff he does to get the driveability that way is pretty cool. His car honestly drives better than my car did bone stock.

I wasn't targeting you inparticular at all so please don't take it that way, people just always tend to be biased towards the poducts they use. People don't like spending 700 dollars on an AP and then telling people that its a POS ipod looking thing thats made in china.

Everyone has their own way of doing things....

i think for the the not so frugal and dont like to tinker group the AP is great. It is a plunge n play and if it poofs you got someone to call to get help. You pay to play

I had an AP before OpenSource but i was locked out unless i get a street tuner
so with all the addons its a lot more than a tactrix cable

What tables? So far I've seen the same table list...

I still firmly believe that if you want your car tuned and you are not going to be making tweaks and changes yourself, more importantly if you dont have a clue about it at all, the AP is for you.

If you know how it works and know how to tune (HIGHLY unlikely)....then by all means, use the opensource stuff or buy the AP with street tuner and go to town.

That being said...98% of you people who have a WRX/STi/LGT/FXT/OXT/Baja and mod it/want it faster: Get the AP.

Those other 2%: about 1.9% of you should not be tuning your car as you really have no clue eventho you call yourselves 'tuners' and think you are doing a good job. The remaining 0.1% are real tuners who own subarus. (ie: Doug, SS, Phil@Element, and some others)

Opensource IS a gamble. It depends on who you trust to make maps for you and if you can live with whether or not your motor blows. But I guess I could say that for any type of tune other than stock. I ran Gabedude's r29 Stage 1 map for stock wrx and personally it was very smooth and with some power to it. I likes it better than the Stage 2 I paid $$ for from an online company. But that is me. :) I am not saying it is safe because I want people to judge for themselves. I know the Enginuity creator so I can always call and have a sort of support system.

That is where the AP I hear really works out. Its a no brainer, AND you have a support system right there. Looking back, I am NOT a tuner, nor will I ever know what I am donig. The AP would be the best route for me. But if I blow up, I'll just cry my eyes out and go from there. :)
