Well its that time, with the rainy wet slick roads that we have had up here I noticed that the car is tending to hydroplane more often. I pulled over and looked at the tread and there is NOTICEABLE wear on the inside of the fronts its slick. Im happy but not happy I wanted new tires but not this week I guess the dragon really did a number on the old RE070's anyways heres is my question. Whats the widest tire that I an fit on the stock BBS's?
Oh and I'm gonna go with the Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212 Ive got them on the 92 and I love em. Unless the Falken Azenis are ever available at Edge Racing.
You're lowered on springs right? I'd suggest you hang out around 245 or less. But...you could prob fit 275s on there if you werent lowered.
I was running 245 / 40s on my car on the stock BBS wheels. I am lowered and had no issues. Just a FYI out of the 615 azenis. I only got about 12 or 13K out of them compared to the 24K out of my stock Potenzas.
You need to have that alignment checked! I'd say go with some 245's and be done with it. Better plan on putting those springs on soon too, before the alignment of course.
The tire wore exactly like Keith's did we we pulled them off at you house the other day. And I'm still waiting on those rear springs to get here
I wish I had your hook-up :naughty::rofl: I might go 225/45/17 cause I a little worried about the drop I don't want them to rub like the 92x does
Dude, 245's are perfectly fine. Remember, the Saab is a wagon. Most of the time 225's rub on those. Luckily I've fit 245's on my wagon. :naughty:
I plan to go 255/40/17 Azenis on mine and I'm lowered on RCE yellow... Several people on IWSTI have stated these should fit with no rubbing... I hope their right!
Update: So I ordered 245/40/17's from Edgeracing.com this morning but I just got an e-mail that they were sold out :wtc: So I think I'm going 235/40/17's (would be the Falken)Azenis Rt615 but is that a big enough difference over the stock 225/45/17's Thanks guys!
on a 17 X 8, yeah, that should be fine, the diameter is a hair smaller that the stock size, but not that much. my 245/45/17 rt-615's are almost dead after 15k (dd and autocross last season) and i am planning on going w/ the 235/40/17's when i replace them.
i've seen a 235 falken (possibly 225) next to a 225 re070 and the re070 is a little bit wider still (they run wide). so you might not be getting any wider at all. I'd get either a different tire or wait on them. and i'd avoid the hankook just cause you'll really miss the stiff sidewall of the re070 compared to them.
I didn't know the Azenis only lasted 15k or so... I know there a summer tire but geesh! I might have to reconsider my choices and find some kind of middle ground between longevity and performance... I can't afford $600 a year on tires...
just remember the three points to consider when buying tires. longevity..... performance.... price.... ...choose two
hahhaa... um, i have news for you then. Save your pocket change because our cars eat tires! Fast cars use rubber. It sucks but there's no way around it. Just be glad you're not driving a Corvette or similar... my thoughts (feel free to criticize!!!): 255/40- too wide for a 8" rim and too heavy. overkill. Why? Sidewall flex would be too much. stock diameter which is nice, but really needs a 9" rim to help anything. 245/45- can totally work with stock rims, but best if it's a nice quality tire (RE01R, Advans...). great option unless you're in a 2.0. This is my favorite tire. Fits STi's fine. 245/40- on a 8" rim there's no advantage. go with the 245/45 and net better speeds or 225/45 and enjoy the weight/fit savings. There's grip to be had with the width, but diameter is smaller than stock so you'll be shifting a lot 235/? are these made in nice tires??? 235/45 could be cool. 225/45- buy a nice tire and you'll be really happy. good diameter. This is what I suggest to run on 8" rims. Even treadwear and proper rim fitments. Won't fit on a 9" rim if you're wondering. On an 8" rim and street tire there isn't much performance difference between all these in width. The height of the tire and compound is what matters. Be sure you're around a 140-200 treadwear. More than that and you may as well trade in your car for a Carolla. On a side note, I'm about to list a set of practically new 070s for $350 if anyone is interested. It's a lot to ask for for takeoffs, but they are in incredible shape... :naughty:
another thing to think about with an aggressive tire is how it drives near dead. For example, Advans and RE01rs drive best at 75% wear, and Azenises and Hancoks drive like crap at 75%... And a 615s never really work well in the rain even when new.
I just went ahead and ordered the 225/45 to be done with it. I got the Hankooks just cause I have them on the 92x and there great the only thing that I could find bad on them was the weak side wall but that was only based on one opinion the other drivers seemed to like them i.e. Autox drivers. I will do a review on them when I get them on.
They are on my s2000 as street tires.... certainly one step down from the RE01rs but decently grippy! Jay my sometimes co-driver swears by them.
I glad that its over phew And my Whiteline Springs were waiting for me at the door when I got home! yayz
