Well I don't have much experience working on cars and I am asking if anyone has a good recommendation for a book or books on basic auto mechanics, tools and their uses, etc?

I'm wanting to tinker with the old Legacy soon as I move into my new home and hopefully become a little more self sufficient too.

    Thanks!

no need to go out and buy a book, just read here and you'll learn quite a bit about your car.

If there is a Chilton's manual for your car, then I highly recommend you pick one up. They are packed with all kinds of useful information.

Also, there are some great resources on the web for DIY auto repair info. Both Autozone.com and Advanceautoparts.com have tutorials for most of your general repair items.

I was even able to find the OEM repair manual for my '06 WRX on ebay in a .pdf for $6.00. It is something like 1200 pages long and covers everything on the car. You could look around for one of those.
