Ok guys, you have all heard me bitching about the issues I am having with my Lilliput LCD screen for the Car PC. Well anyways, the other day, my Brother-in-Law was trying to help me diagnose what the problem might be. For anyone who heard my previous rants, the issue I am experiencing is, when the computer boots up, the screen comes on normally. The screen will show the quick pc diagnostic and the Windows Boot Screen. Then when it gets to the part where I would enter a Username and Password to log into Windows, the Screen will show "No Input Signal" and turns off. Occasionally, the screen will come on and stay on, and once it is on, it works perfectly until the car is turned off and the issue starts again. So the other day, we are playing around with the PC, and my bro in law suggests booting into Safe Mode, and making sure that the PC is set to use VGA. So as the computer is booting, I hit F8 over and over again, until it gives me the option to boot into Safe Mode, or Boot in VGA. If I select VGA, walla, the screen comes on every time so far, however, the resolution is set to 480x600. The screen works, everything looks good, but because of the resolution, I have trouble getting to OK on some apps. Small price to pay, but it is working. Here is the kicker. If, after booting to VGA, I go to control panel -> Display -> Settings, and change the resolution, the screen flashes, "No Input Signal" and turns off. OK, so we are thinking that maybe something in the screen is broken, and for some reason, it can't use a resolution that had worked before, and according to the instruction book, the screen should be able to handle without problems. So then, I reboot, F8 again into VGA Mode, and the resolution is again 480x600 and the screen comes on again. Go into Control Panel -> Display -> Settings, and make sure that the PC is set to default to the low resolution and it is. Power off thinking that everything is solved, and I just have to deal with the low Res setting, and go about my business for the day. Go out to my car later, start up, and again at the Windows Login Screen, "No Input Signal" and the screen goes off again. Turn the car off and back on, F8 to go into VGA Mode, and the screen comes on in 480x600 res, and everything seems to be working again. Go to Control Panel -> Display -> Settings, and change the res off 480x600, not hitting OK or Apply, and then back, and I hit OK, "No Input Signal" and the screen goes off. Boot back into VGA, do the same thing, but this time hitting Apply instead of OK, and the screen goes off again. So, all in all, if, during bootup, I F8 into VGA mode, the screen comes on everytime. If I try to change the resolution, the screen goes off, even if default is set to low res which works if I F8 into VGA mode. If I do not F8 into VGA Mode the screen shows "No Input Signal" and goes off. What is my problem? Is it the Screen? The Video Card/Motherboard? Or is it Windows? Any help would be appreciated.
my guess would be that the resolution your choosing has a refresh rate that is to high for the screen. this happens to me on my mac all the time when changing out monitors. open the display properties window. go to the settings tab. then hit the advanced button. from there you can set dpi, refresh rate, and other things that might be causing this problem. also in that advanced window, on the monitor tab make sure to check the hide modes this monitor wont display box.
the same thing happens to my liliput sometimes. just try it with a laptop to make sure its not ur vid card.
btw jt, its not the refresh rate problem i have the same screen as he does and when the ref rate or resolution is out of range.. the screen says out of range.. so im betting on the vid card.. take your laptop in and plug that in..
cool i didnt know that. :hs: im with you then it must be the vid card. just graduated school so i got more time to post now. although ive always been lurkin.
:naughty: sooner than most think. im currently on the job hunt and most are in that area so i may be coming back for more than just a visit. im looking to come up around my bday other wise.
What motherboard/video card are you using for your carPC? On my M10K, I've got a BIOS setting for the monitor that people have recommended I change from LCD to CRT. It seemed to help out a couple things for me (I guess it's to keep the PC from being too smart and screwing things up with the LCD). Maybe you could check to see if you have that setting or something similar. Other than that, yes I would recommend trying a different PC. Bringing a laptop out to the car is the easiest. If it's just your machine, then you have to figure out if it's the software (windows or the driver), or the hardware (mobo or the vid card if not onboard). You could try a driver re-install, or drop in a new vid card if possible. Otherwise a re-install of windows may be next. You could image your drive, re-install, and if it doesn't help, quickly go back so you don't lose your config. Let me know if you need any help troubleshooting. I'm always up for getting together/working on carPC's.
I have an Epia-SP VIA CN400. Saturday, with pEd and Strayen's help, I uninstalled the video drivers, and let the computer reinstall them from the harddrive. Started the car, and the screen worked. Turned the car off and back on, and it stopped again. Then, Sunday, I redownloaded the drivers, and installed them. Again, the screen worked on next startup, and actually worked the next 3 times I started the car, but Monday afternoon, when I ran out for lunch, it died on me again, and has not worked since. At this point, I believe the next step is to reinstall Windows and see if that fixes the issue. The vid card is embedded on the Mobo, so if it is the vid card, then the car pc is pretty much done, and I don't know what I will do.
Yea, I would definitely try Windows next. Windows can be a PITA to replace, but fortunately some of the carPC software is easy to re-install. If you're running RoadRunner, just copy that folder off somewhere, it doesn't need an install, just needs to be dropped back in later. If you're running iGuidance, copy off the C:\iNav Iguidance\ folder as that's the maps and they don't need to be installed either (much faster to just copy them in than use the maploader). You can just re-install the software which takes a few mins. Everything else you'll probably need to re-install after installing Windows. If your harddrive image isn't too large, or you can make it smaller by removing all your media to a backup, I can get you a copy of Acronis True Image to image your drive so that if it's not Windows, you didn't blow it away for nothing. Just PM me to arrange a time for me to turn on my FTP server - the installer is about 100mb. Also, what monitor are you running? There is still the possibility that it's the monitor. If you know someone with the same model monitor you can try to toss your PC into their car (or vise-versa w/ the monitor) to see if the issue occurs there. I've got an EBY701 that's pretty easy to remove.
This was why I ditched the CarPC and just bought myself a Pioneer AVIC D3. The CarPC kept having issues and kept messing up and I got sick of it. This same thing happened to me and I did everything you mentioned with no permanent fix. Reinstalled Windows and loaded the SP's prior to installing the screen software and voila it worked. Good luck man!
