Hi, I am new in Subaru world. Just wondering what kind of coilover are most popular? I am thinking about TEIN, JIC and Cusco. Any suggestion will be appreciated **I am also looking for Cat-back exhaust, but I ll post in other section ** Thank you
is that an 08 STI? If so, I don't know the flavor of the week for the new STI suspension yet, but I am sure someone will know for ya
Which brand are most popular for GDA and GDB?? Or any manufacture specialize for Subaru? I heared Cusco suspension is really good but expensive...
well the new hotness in coilovers right now is the TiC (turninconcepts.com) SST coilover, but I dont know if they have fitment for the 08 STI yet...
Wow~ is Sakari Motorsport locate in Norcross? I live here too. I just send you the email about the cusco coilover
I love my JIC's and they just came out with a brand new model. Lethal Injection is a local distributor. Check out JIC-magic.com for specs. They might even want a 08 to prototype with if they don't already have a model.
If you are going to the track you can skip all the ones that have been mentioned so far. The KW variant 3s are nice as well as the RCE Tarmac 2s. But if I was buying a new set of coilovers I would buy the ZZYZX
If you don't want to drop the $$$ on coil overs, koni struts and eibach springs are pretty popular with the older WRXs. Also just to give you a heads up, only a couple companies make a catback for the '08 hatches so far (the exhaust is waaaaaaay different than the pre-08s). BTW I work in Norcross!
+1.... i really see no real use for COs unless you plan to track or autox.... for DD i'd get a nice set of springs or some decent teins.
You need to decide what your goals for your car before getting coilovers. If it is just to lower the car, get some springs. If it is to pick up some trashy chicks at NOPI, and you want more lowering than springs will allow, get some cheap coilovers. If it is for performance, decide what is the most important aspect of performance. There are trade-offs for comfort vs performance. For our car, once we put the KW V3 coilovers on it, it lost it's ability to be comfortable on long trips. But, it wasn't a DD, so it worked out well for us.
Eibach springs suck. Their spring rates are probably the weakest of all aftermarket springs. I have them now. The drop is okay, could have been more in the front. After autox'ing with them for a few seasons, I wish I had gone with a much higher spring rate like the RCE's. Like BrianGT said, think about the application of these coilovers before you go investing your money in something. I wish I could have gone back on some of my mods, but I started modding before autox'ing. Save the ZZ and the KW's for when you are thinking about going to Nationals. Stick with a good spring/strut combo that is inexpensive until you get a few years of seat time if racing is your thing. I would suggest KYB AGX, Tokico D-spec, or Koni for struts, and Espelir or RCE's for springs.
Do yourself a favor, and buy a quality coilover. Not some ebay or knock off coil over. If you can't afford a quality coilover than save up and wait. Nothing screws up a car more than a set of mismatched coilovers. My suggestions in no special order. JRZ Ohlins KW Bilstien PSS9
