Everybody knows that swapping out the up-pipe can be a big PITA, but this weekend I discovered a way to bump that up a notch. (My old one had a crack all the way around the weld to the bottom flange.) I started the breakdown Friday night, oh, about 20 minutes before the giant downtown tornado headed straight towards my house (which ended about two miles before my house :eek3. When I did open the door to see what the ruckus was it knocked me over. At this point I have no power, but nothing else to do, so the work continues, in the dark. Also at this point I elbow the pressure hose connection on the intake duct, snapping it off. Joy. Took a break overnight so that I could be prepared to shoot the looters :naughty:. Continued the next day still with no power and now only warm beer. Right after my buddy pulled up to help the hail came through. We scrambled to pull my car down and slide it forward so he could get at least part of his car in the garage. He got hit pretty hard but didn't initially see that much damage. I also crushed my thumb trying to get the EGT off the old pipe. Its black now. Then thanks to a special delivery from Will with the last two gaskets I needed we were able to work into the night getting everything back on, in the dark. And then as I was tightening the very last bolt on the down-pipe hanger when the power finally comes back on after 30 hours. Figures. It was all worth it though because the car is running the smoothest I have ever had it run. And I love it again. :ddirty:
nice write up!! I'm glad to see/hear you got it done. Did you have any issues finding my house? Also, I think you need one of these: https://www.fenix-store.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_85&products_id=398
As soon as we get internet again.... Just 2 out 3. I can't believe that one got away, but I wounded him, so he probably didn't get too far. Yeh, it was pretty easy to find. Though was about the shadiest parts exchange ever. Just Will standing under a street light beside some apartments, we just pull up grab the parts and go. I was thinking maybe I would get some crack out of the deal. And for the flashlight, if it needs a graph to explain how good it is, it's probably more than I need.
  Ironically, my neighborhood is about the safest in the area!! That's why I bought my condo there! we have other lights in stock without graphs!
Just an update. The car is running like crap again. I'm guessing I have a leaky gasket somewhere. I already knew I got a bad seal on the downpipe to catback gasket. Would a leak there cause problems worse than just stinkyness?
Maybe it is different on a02 WRX, but...my up pipe install really wasn't bad...at all...like 3hrs, tops. Sorry about your thumb. Where in East Atlanta are you?
I think all in all it took me about 4 hours, just spread out over a couple days while I waited for parts/electricty. I'm right off Flat Shoals by 20. Just listen for the gunshots and ghetto birds.
