It sounds like, in part of this article, that's what's being said. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1471819 Could taking my snorkus out (before the air filter) really blow my engine up because it was running too rich?
doubt it. there are very few people on nasioc who can accurately discuss helmholtz principles IMO. I take most everything I read there with a HUGE grain of salt.
When I removed mine, I did not notice a single difference on the wideband o2 readings. Did not have to remap the intake calibrations at all. Is it possible the filter could get a little misting? Possible, but not likely as long as you are not driving through small rivers. Think the snorkus was mainly for silencing intake noise more than anything.
not really the issue in the nasioc thread. more to do with erroneous MAF readings at a very narrow RPM range on NA subies while WOT. I wonder if the guy on nasioc calculated the rpm range or was it from empirical evidence? I think something else is playing into it he is overlooking.
Just a note, the thread only applies to NA subies. I realize the OP drives one, but no one else so far does
yeah i drove off the lot with ~20 miles on the odometer and deleted my snorkus the next day. 55k miles later no problems
