ok just installed a boost gauge and its reading 10lbs most of the time but it will get up to maybe 12lbs, the only mods I have on the car is a full 3" exhaust and intake, is this where the boost should be or could I have istalled the gauge incorrectly? and could I push a lil more boost? thanks for any input.
I think stock boost is about 13 psi. As far as if you could increase it, tuning / EM could safely do it some. You said you had exhaust, but did not mention any EM - cobb or other. The Cobb stage 2 MAP goes to 15 psi or so. Keep in mind that the boost is dependent on RPM, throttle position, and also gear (I think you get highest in 3rd or 4th).
im cobb stage 2 and i see about 17 psi in 2nd and 3rd. i think 10 would be about right if u dont have EM
reset your ecu, and see if that fixes it. IIRC, peak boost in first and second is 10lbs, then it should be 14ish in 3rd-5th
No where near that long, unplug the battery, open your door, see dome light go off, presto it's reset.
Those boost levels sound about right. My car makes about the same. I can't tell exactly since my boost gauge is an OEM STI one and it reads in Bar. Stock max boost is quoted as "11.9." I think with a catback you'll make a little bit more. I know I spool faster and push a bit more boost with my 3" CBE.
reset your ecu, and you should be fine.... full TBE and a intake should maybe raise your boost level maybe 1psi in 3rd-5th you should be hitting 13-high 14ish....
ok thanks for the input. But as far as the boost, can I raise it any, just wondering before I try anything stupid, cause I do have a MBC that Id luv to try out.
ok ok im lost, ive been out of it for a while, MBC=manual boost control, right? whats ftl haha I feel dumn as F......! lol
Yeah, upping the boost sounds like a great idea until something begins to smoke and subsequently explodes. You can't just increase boost, you have to change lots of other factors in the way the motor applies the boost. I'm sure Will or someone could tell you exactly why. But, in short, a MBC is like a Vorpal blade for your EJ.:thumbsdow
