So, yesterday I somehow got a very large bolt in my tire, near the sidewall, not repairable. The treads on my other three good tires didn't have enough depth to play nice with a new tire, so I replaced all four (Escta AXS). At any rate, while replacing my tires they scratched the hell out of two of my rims. Two tool marks near the valve stems and tool marks all the way around the lip of the wheel. My question is this, what should I get out of the tire shop? Will re-surfaced wheels look identical to my original wheels? (OEM on an 06 WRX). Or should I require them to replace them with brand new wheels. Other than the scratches they put in the wheels, all of my wheels (except for incredibly minor curb rash on one) are pristine. They've really taken a crappy situation and made it way worse. Add to the fact that it took them 2.5 hours to replace four tires.
I'd see what they will do first.... some places just don't care. I'd take your next set to get mounted at Gran Turismo. Most people have the "i'll take it to walmart or generic chain tire shop and save $20-$30 to get my tires mounted" mentality. Sorry your rims got messed up.
In the end, to make it right, you should expect to have the end result being that your wheels were in the same condition as when you went in there. You will probably have to talk to the general manager. Did they admit that they scratched your wheels? Personally, I only take my car to Gran Turismo East for tires.
Yup, they admitted that they scratched them. It was VERY obvious that is was a scratch from the tool they used to replace the tire. Plus two identical scratches near the valve stems. How much does re-surfacing a wheel cost? I'll keep Gran Turismo in mind next time, I just needed to get new tires ASAP since I really worried about driving around on the doughnut ripping my diffs to shreds. Kicker was them inflating all of the wheels to different tire pressures.
Where did you go? Might help others to avoid that place in the future. I had my tires put on by Steve at Classic (KingWRX) on the board. He also balanced it and was careful the whole time. *thumbs up*
I'll update with where as soon as I get it all sorted out. No reason throwing them under the bus if they end up doing the right thing in the end.
They should pay for that!! If (very slim chance) one of my techs scratches a wheel we pay to have it fixed.. Touchless changers FTW
I went to Discount Tire once and had Kevin put a set of tires on my car once, and it was perfect, no scratches, and they were quite a good deal.
Any idea on the cost? How long it takes etc? Cause if I have to be without my car for a few days because they screwed up, I'll get angry. Also, how good does a "fixed" wheel look?
678.855.2367 Timothy with Alloy Wheel Repair can fix it same day with the tire still mounted on your wheel.. Say you got the numer from Kevin at Discoun Tire..
Most tires shops have a sign that states they are not liable for scratches on rims around here.....I'm VERY picky with who does my tires but at the same time I'm very limited with options.
They fixed both of the wheels beautifully. And then two days ago I scraped the hell out of my left front pulling into my GF's new apartment complex. Heh, went nearly two years without getting a single bit of curb rash then right after they fix them, whamo!
how long did it take to get them fixed? Obviously since it was 2 wheels, how did you drive around on the car for however long it took to fix them? ouch, that really sucks!
They did it on the car. Took about 5 hours. Was really quite painless, I just never got around to posting an update.
i'd still like to know the place...glad they fixed everything and made it right, but this might be something worth avoiding in the future if possible
