I believe cops should spend less time hanging out talking to each other in there cars, donut shops, parking lots, giving tint tickets, setting speed traps, and all the rest of the bs they do that "us" tax payer pay for, and do some real police work, like muders, rapes, etc...... no offense if your a cop... end rant......
I agree whole heartedly with that statement Mike, but where would all their income be without tickets? Then we more than likely wouldn't have police departments at all....
that section on your check every two weeks that Federal & GA withheld.... and yea, heaven for bid they would have to actually do some real police work.....
dude, you would be amazed how many times cops stop people for what seems like small reasons (tint, speeding, etc) and they end up finding a lot more wrong than just the initial infraction. for the most part, they will use tint/small speeding infractions in order to run a check on the tag of the car/license of the driver to make sure everything is in order...
Yup house-sitting right now in Roswell. GF moved into an area 10 years ago that is now ghetto (Holcomb Bridge and 400). She waited to long to sell. Public drug dealing, gang bangers the whole nine yards. Not a cop in site. Maybe once a month for a quick drive through, in broad day light of course. We have complained to the City to the police chief. I don't care if I offend cops here. In Chicago where I am from the cops owned the gang bangers it was their turf (the cops) even if they didn’t control it 100% of the time they had a presence. Here at least in Roswell the cops are owned from what I can see. They are definitely underpayed though. In Chicago I never had the desire to have a gun. I am currently waiting for my gun license in the mail.
Theres no doubt that they find many 'minor' stops turn in to busts, but thats only using a potentially questionable law to get their proverbial foot in the door. They're using a law that is soley based on appearance (tint darkness) to pull vehicles over and evaluate them. If we remove that little portion called "tint darkness" then we have profiling. Plain and simple. Thats why some cars with crazy dark tint may never get pulled over. I lived in Duluth for about 8 months, just behind the wal-mart on pleasant hill at that. I had an 04 Pontiac Vibe. It was completely stock except for the tint, 5% all the way around except for the 40 on the front windshield. Not once did I get messed with, and they could have thrown me a ticket for sure. Now, take that same car, throw on a fart can and some bling wheels and I'd have been pulled over faster than you can say "court date". I now live in Chamblee and I pass a Sandy Springs officers house everday. His fence has been tagged about 5 times in the past 12 months. The two gas stations near us have no grass around them b/c of all the day labor loitering. Then comes the prostitutes and crack heads. Oh yea, cant miss them and the PD is telling our community that WE have to file complaints, WE have to call them, and WE have to be the ones to push to "help" expedite the process of cleaning up this area. Im like WTF over!? You're gonna jack with my wife over tags (we had dealer temp tags) but the guys selling drugs, and prostitues you're just gonna let that go!? Please. My wife if very active in our community groups and all we hear about is how frustrated we are over break-ins, drugs, prostitution and day laborers. They can do better, and its stuff like that that makes the good cops have to work that much harder. Sad really.
cops told me to call in to check the amount for the ticket and for further instructions. I did and punched in the citation number... nothing. I'm on hold ... 15 minutes so far. We're busy... Thank you and have a nice day.
What is potentially questionable about the tint law. Tint, although it has its benefits, hinders your visibility. I almost hit someone because I couldn't see them on a dark street, and I have 20% all around.
Im young so i guess it really doest effect me too much. The BMW has 20, but is as dark as 10 ( factory tinting with after market) and i have no trouble seeing.. even at night.
Ok, and to put this to an end... IT IS ILLEGAL TO HAVE TINT DARKER THAN 35%. If you get a ticket for it, it sucks, but you broke the law...its your fault
I've got 5% on mine...both GD cars with STi wings and loud exhaust. It seems legal seeing as how I never got a ticket for it even tho I was pulled over several times for other reasons... Ass.
Dude, I did not drive those cars very often in NC...95% of the two car's combined mileage during my ownership was in the GA-ATL area.
From both sides. Cops cant see if you've got illegal assault weapons and you are on the way to the bank to rob it, and it does SERIOUSLY affect night time visibility. So much so that I'm not tinting the outback one bit. I cant count how many times I've over shot/cut short/hit curbs/nearly changed lanes INTO someone in my 2.5 RS w/5%, the WRX with 5% and my Wife's with only 20%. The outback has none. It will stay none. I like seeing as much as possible so I can haul ass when I want. The other 3 cars I cant because I feel like I have tunnel vision during the day and ESPECIALLY at night. But on the other hand, it is OH SO NICE to have 5% all around. It eases the eye strain during the day, asshats with their high beams on all the time behind you no longer bother you at night and the sun doesnt burn as bad during the summer months.
Listen to brent! he is the man. As for rear windows, I was told that if you have a 2 or 4 door car, you have to have 35% all the way around, but if you have a 3 or 5 door car (hatch or wagon), then you can have the rear windows darker.
i ve also heard that the newest tint law says that all windows must be 35% or higher and 100% windshield....
And that's what pisses me off. I understand it from a cop's security standpoint, but under that reasoning panel vans should be illegal as well. Hell you could hide 8 guys armed with MP5s in the back of one of those. Let's see someone hide that many people in the back of an impreza.
you can go as dark in the rear as you want with mini-vans, and they should have enough space for your small militia
Thats exactly what I've never understood.... Monster truck SUV's come with damn near limo tint all around except in front. You could have said ak-47 pointed right at the officer the whole time, only to blow him away before he makes it to a window he can actually see thru.. whats the difference? Why do monster trucks get special treatment? If thats truly the reason tint is illegal then the same rule should apply regardless of vehicle type. As far as tint impacting vison, I believe that should be the owners responsibility. If your tint is to dark for your eyes... remove it! I had 5% on my mustang and never had an issue. That should be a judgement call, the hell with looking cool or blocking out the sun if you can't see! Use some common sense!
That doesnt cover all the fine details, like what SUVs, minivans, trucks rules are and MOST importantly, this law that's NC related: By definition, ALL 4WD/FT4WD/AWD SUBARU's are multi-purpose and advertised as such. If the court wants to get nit picky, well, sorry, the JF1********* guys are out. So are the 4S3********** guys. JF2 and 4S4 is IN!
google it. The info I posted is from the NC DMV/DOT site. GA may be different NOW but when I researched it, GA had 'similar' laws regarding tint. However, I would make it a HUGE deal in court with a JF1/4S3 car as even those are portrayed as vehicles with special off road capability...WRX/STi=rally car. Most Outbacks are 4S3=off road/out doorsy type. Foresters from 1997~2008 are JF1. Those are nearly always seen 'off road' in commercials and such. The 2009+ is JF2 now.
Quote/ or has special features designed for occasional off-road operation That is what I would use to get out of the ticket, that and say that the car is rarely driven only for car shows, track events (including off road ) One thing is fo sho I ain't payin no stinkin ticket.
If you all think GA is strict on tint....you should see how bad VA cops are on it...just read the MAIC forums on Nastyoc...LOL... Mark
