A big thanks to Liquid Force! We wrenched on my car for eight hours! I did about 20% of it if that, but "he's da man". He busted his ass! If I even attempted the slightest bit of this install I would have broken my car no problem:rofl: I did learn allot and was able to assist which was great! . He installed 565cc deatschworks injectors, I did install the Walbro fuel pump and he installed the Big16g. A simple turbo swap, no such thing. The new turbo is a different diameter, the ports for the coolant and oil are all a different circumference. Clamps that worked before suddenly don't work. Hoses and connectors that worked before suddenly don't work. A hose that takes 2 seconds to take off suddenly turns into 20 to re-install. It is however done! Tomorrow Top Speed and S Seigel to get it running right. Then hopefully 300hp to the wheels. I will post the dyno pulls!
Deadbolt big16G? Care to enlighten any more of the installation hangups for other members considering the same or similar turbos? I'm interested to see the numbers considering the amount of kickass Evo 3 16G 2.0s I've seen on nasioc recently.
As far as the installation hangups, probably no different than anything else. You just have to make sure you now what the hell you're doing, or make sure there is someone there that does, because every car is unique. I would say doing it yourself or helping is the most rewarding experience. My goal with the 16g is reliable daily driving performance with more lower end response. The person who sold it to me is 98% sure it is a deadbolt.
Congrats bro, post up them #'s when you are done. Yeah, Mike is the man and certainly has schooled me to the point that I do most if not all of my own work.
Something about a scalding hot car slows things down a little. hnoes: Ditch the spring clamps on the coolant lines to the turbo and use a screw type clamp . I am not sure if the hard lines are a slightly differnt size or the ends get a little deformed and take more force to clamp shut. Also having a good shop light is king. I don't have one and I had another car in my garage so trying to do this in the dark wasn't much fun.
'Something about a scalding hot car slows things down a little.' What's a little burnt flesh for the sake of horsepower!?!?! Thanks again Mike! Despite the circumstances you prevailed!
the stock spring clamps are basically 'one time use only' clamps. They leak on stock cars after you remove/install them.
oh god this. I swear I almost lose a damn finger every time I screw with those. Were the awesome green brackets present for the injector swap? need a loaner to test. Im telling you, if you let me take one to work and they like it, I could probably sell a fell dozen. we have deep pockets for stupid shit (we spent $600 on a microwave for the break room)
Just got back from Top Speed under the fine tuning microscope of the infamous Scott Siegel who lived up to his reputation of course. The only issue was at first the turbo would not exceed 14lb's of boost. Turned out there was an extra pill in the boost pressure relief line. Strange, maybe the car was built on a Monday in Tokyo. After Scott solved that little obstacle it was pushing 22lbs no problem. Nice Turbo Will! Thanks again! Make a long story short after a dozen or so pulls and Siegel tweaks it was maxing out around 267 whp. One big reason for this was the QT gas. Anyway Scott mentioned Shell or Chevron would give me a few extra ponies. We filled up at Shell and the car was hauling ass while he was road tuning. I would say that we are safely around 270 to the wheel. Which is pretty much what I expected and very reliable. The car pulls nicely in every gear. Very linear! Another nice thing is that now that the base structure is there I can tweak it, for example a FMIC will probably get it up to 300 whp. The most important thing is that everything works, nothing blew up, or broke and there are no leaks. Scott will post or get me the dyno numbers and will can post them. They are not that incredibly impressive but the base pull was 227 whp and we ended up at 270whp so a 43 whp increase. The mod list over the last two months looks like this: Turbo XS up, Injen down, Stromung cat back/STi Timic, splitter and hood scoop/Walbro fuel pump, Deatschworks 565cc injectors/ big 16g turbo/AP2 and Custom SS Tune. I guess the warranty is over. Car pulls very nicely!:bigthumb: A Big Thanks to Stephen, Alex, Mike, Vince and Scott who made it happen and ofcourse WRXAtlanta:bowdown:
no side steps or running over the redline and you should be okay. when I was at your power 2nd gear got shredded at about 7100rpm 3 days after getting some new rubbuh.
what does the injector duty cycle look like? i want to go evo3 16g and im seeing 650cc as a minimum in most peoples builds. also curious as to the truth if your turbo is a db, blouch, fp or other... either way, congrats and enjoy! be easy on that tranny : )
Congrats on the tune. I have to say your car looks like it just rolled of the showroom floor and with the new power to match its a real nice setup. 565's are enough for a 16g but I would recommend going with 720's That way when you decide to go even bigger you don't have to touch the injectors again.
We may never know the turbo origin but it is a big 16g and all is good:rofl: I don't think I am going to upgrade injectors for maybe another year or two, okay maybe six months, emmm possibly next month..........:naughty: Yea I am an old man so I don't launch too hard. I try to accelerate nice and smooth when I get on it, no stomping. I stay out of red line especially now. I don't drag race but I may build it up over time to do some track duty. I know allot of guys here that are exceeding 350whp with stock trannies. I understand word to the wise though and definitely will adhere to all forwarnings:hsnono: If some cash comes my way don't think I won't consider an Andrewtech 5sp. I like the indestructible characteristic of the sixers but the ratio is a little close for me...............
So other than blowing out my EGT sensor from my up-pipe every few pulls the new set up is incredible. It pulls soooo linear and constant and when you get into boost hold on tight! I love it! Thanks again SS and all others! Definitely!
I am considering a deadbolt big 16 on my 2.0l any chance I could get a ride? I really want to see what the lag is like, that is my primary concern at the moment.
Finally "Da Numba's" Not quite up there with the big boys yet, but I am proud! Almost 100more whp than stock:naughty:. That would be roughly $25 per horse power based on what I spent.........SO.......I am broke....but happy:bigthumb:
I work in Sandy Springs on Hammond Drive in the Porsche building. If you want to come over at lunch we can go for a ride! Just shoot me a PM.
many companies located within the porche building... but if he works for porsche...jealous:coolugh: I looked at some job openings at porsche and fluent german was required..damnit.
