Dogfish Head: Best brewery ever?

Seriously, nothing from Dogfish Head has done anything but restore my faith in the american microbrewery. Their 60 Minute IPA is great, 90 Minute IPA is the best IPA I've ever had. Raison D'Etre is excellent for a dark beer, and tonight I tried the Aprihop. Aprihop is an IPA brewed with apricots, sounded odd but the Raison is brewed with raisins and I loved it so I gave this one a try. I'm surprised I'm still typing fine because this is great. Nice to see a brewery think outside of the box and try mixing in odd ingredients and still ending up with a kickass brew.

I've only had these 4 varieties from them but am going back tomorrow to get the ones I havent tried and give them a shot. I heard from some of my sister's friends in Delaware that they've got a 120 Minute IPA that is nothing short of incredible, I cant wait until it makes it down this way.

    Any other fans on here?

All I've tried is the 60 min, but it was certainly delicious. Don't hold your breath on the 120. Until GA law changes, it's not going to show up down here.

hmm... I will have to pick some of this up tonight, I love most IPAs, I think Heavy Seas Loose Cannon IPA is my favorite right now, but I have heard good things about Dogfish.

Dogfish head does rule! You can order 120 minute IPA from online beer/liquor stores and they will ship it into Ga. I did it a few months ago from a company called Liquid Solutions. The Appricot IPA is also really good.

But 120 Minute is around $10 per 12 oz. bottle, I bought 5 of them and with shipping it can out to be almost $70. Worth every dollar.

Dogfish head on draft is one of the best beers I have ever had. I know Taco Macs and the Vortex keep the 60 minute on tap. If you have had the bottles but not draft, I cannot encourage you enough to try one straight from the keg.

They also made this beer that was based of molecular findings of 9000 year old Chinese beer vessels. I shit you not. I tried it and it was pretty good, but believe it or not it did not taste like beer i was used to.

After cruising around their website, it looks like they make small amounts of liquor!

If their gin is anything like their beer, I may have to go to Delaware to pick this up...

Dogfish head is great! Where did you find the Apricot one? I'd love to try it.

Haha I don't know about that man. Granted I've never had, but unless that beer gives me a blowjob while I consume it, I don't think I could bring myself to pay $10 a bottle.

Capital City next to my Fellinis has a good variety of dogfish head brews.

    What do the minutes mean?

It's the amount of time they boil the wort. More hops are added since they are boiling for a longer time.

I used to go to ABC religiously before it went Yuppie and moved to the new location I could not stumble home from. Numbers FTMFW.

But to be fair too, Sweetwater IPA on draft is t3h sex.

I had a bottle of dark lord imperial stout for new years. extremely rare, but it is awesome if you love russian imperial stouts. It usually ranks around #2 (in the world) on beer websites

the brewery is located in Indiana, and you must go there in person ONE DAY out of the year "dark lord day", and buy the beer in person. limited quantities available.

    http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26/7520
    13% ABV. few excerpts:
"while it isn't my favorite american stout, it is quite probably the best beer i have ever tasted."
"If i could quit my job and drink it all day, I would."
"Dark, blacker than oil, and just as thick. the head was carmel in color. THICK"
"Truly one of the greatest brews made. I felt different after only consuming 2 ½ pints of this potion, different like I was possessed. The wife said that she was either going to call a priest for a exorcism or take me straight to church because of the look on my face. It was an experience all its own"

sorry I didnt really know you dudes then. I would have let someone try it :)

    True on both accounts.

I prefer ABC when I'm looking pregame. Good beer and pretty much unlimited. I feel like sweetwater makes a better brew though. I like going there when I've got out of town company or lady company. Just a little nicer atmosphere IMO. Luckily I have a different friend that works at each of them, so I can generally get the hook-up :)

I had a double IPA last time I was at sweet water. Limited quantities in a Kask. It was amazing. I don't think they are going to produce it though.

They do a lot of stuff like that. Donkey Punch was amazing....probably my favorite beer of all time. IPA on draft is great too.

    MMMM Beer

Yeah but at the brickstore I say screw any domestic brews and only hit up the draft belgian beers.

We really need to do a brickstore meet, other than parking is horrendous, but damn it would be gorgeous to have every single metere'd spot with a wrx in it.

Careful now - a lot of the Canadian and US specialties hold up well compared with the Belgians. Especially on price....

I suppose really that just about anything on draught in the Brickstore satisfies.

My current kick: http://www.unibroue.com/our_beers_eng.html Fin du Monde is particularly good.

Those fantasy metal beers are actually quite tasty. Picked a few up last summer on a whim just because of the Iron Maiden-ish bottle and was pleasantly surprised.

I just got back in from Delaware for my sister's graduation and I declare that anybody travelling through Delaware on a weekday go to the Dogfish Head brewery and take their tour. Its free and all you-can-drink at the end but only what the tour guide decides to tap for you. We got 60 and 90 min IPA, Black and Blue, and Immortale. My dad picked up a bunch more and shipped them back including the Midas Touch, Red and White, Fort, and Santo Paulo. I'm looking forward to the Topobrama thats coming out next month, ancient Mayan beer that an archeologist reconstructed from vases dating from 5000BC, made with cocoa and chiles. The Midas Touch was similarly reconstructed from jars found at what is thought to be the tomb of King Midas. They've got another Chinese brew that is also from 1500BC or something; I guess the owner is a history buff along with a beer buff, a man of my own character apparently.

There's a Dogfish Head restaurant at Rehoboth Beach that also has DFH gin, vodka, and rum but I didnt try any of those. They did have a double-hopped 90 min IPA where they poured draft 90min through a tank of hops and into your cup, it was hoppy heaven :bowdown:
