Ok, so last weekend I was headed out of town and a CEL popped up. I got it checked out, and it was a P0171 code. I talked with Will (WJM), and a few others, and we all decided on the front o2 sensor as being the issue. So, I ordered one, and replaced it last night up at nicad's house. Car was fine on the way home. On the way home from work today, the fucking CEL comes back on. I am very :unamused: right now... On my way up to 2pt5rs' house to pull the code again...
if it is the same code (I think I just figured out how to use Strayen's AP2 cable to log), then cleaning the MAF/checking for leaks is the next step. We just figured due to the age/mileage of the car, the o2 sensor was a good bet. Edit: still didnt work...I am going to take it somewhere(autozone) and get the code read tomorrow...
yep...went up to Autozone and got the code pulled again. P0171 again. The guy at autozone thought the ecu might not have had enough time to learn the new sensor or something, but I went ahead and picked up some MAF cleaner and cleaned the fuck out of it. Hopefully it doesnt come back again...
well, 99.9% of the time its the front A/F on a P0171 especially if its 'stock' or 'basically stock' like yours. The other 0.1% its the MAF. But thats a $250 part and it needs to be a diagnosed with the SSM3. Most of the time a bad MAF will cause a P0172-system too rich. I would find someone to swap with for two drive cycles, if the code either A; follows your MAF or B; stays with your car then: If A: replace MAF. If B: You have an intake leak somewhere.
Well, I guess I should see if the CEL comes back on after cleaning the MAF first, but after that...who wants to volunteer a MAF (*cough* nicad *cough*)
FYI, any 2002~2007 WRX/STi MAF will work. Also, 2005~2007 Legacy GT and H6 MAF is the same. Forester XT 2004~2007 is also the same. 2008 some are the same, some are not...but def. 2004 to 2007 all 2.5 turbo, 2002~2005 EJ205 and 2005~2007 H6's share the same MAF.
well...the CEL is back already. Im gonna try to switch MAFs with Alex tonight though (if he will) If that solves the problem, I am gonna pick up Tal's MAF...
I hate you will, but yes it is stock intake... I have Alex's MAF on right now....car felt fine on the way home. I guess the next day or two is the big test...
Hopefully the CEL won't pop up again. If it does you need to do a boost leak test on the car and see if you can find a leak. If you are still on the stock turbo inlet check it well....they are notorious for splitting and cracking as they age (heat cycles and age isn't plastic's friend).
No CEL so far, and the car is driving great. Alex just txted me saying his car is driving like ass...almost like it is stuck in cold start mode. Alex: "it feels like it wants to hiccup or whatever in the low rpm range which is exactly how my car will drive if its very cold outside and I dont let it warm up."
