Pulled the hard line off the TMIC of my buddies car and it had yucky congested snot looking oil in it. I'm wondering if it's simply normal blow by and condensation is causing the yucky mess inside. You guys think his PCV valve may need replacing? Car has 80,000 miles on it.
thats what mine looked like when i had a bad ringland. but could just be a build up of over the years.
The PCV is under the TMIC right beside the turbo (stock location ones duh). You will see the breather hoses leading to it. I hope his ringlands are fine. It was like that before we worked on it prior to the tune he has and we compression tested it at that point....155 across the board. It's only been 10K miles and this gunk is in there. There's not an insane amount but about a nickle sized amount. It just made me wonder as NONE of the other cars I've worked on had this....just your normal film of oil.
Mine started to have a good amount of oil in the intercooler at around 110k when the turbo started to go...also corresponded to oil usage in between oil changes. Not sure what gunk you are talking about, but if it is kinda milky looking the seals in the turbo could be going and it could be leaking some water into the turbo causing a mixture of oil and water...looks like a frosty material from Wendy's, lol. Mine just had excessive oil blow by, but a cheap $150 stock turbo later and I was back in business.
Tell ya what caused it on mine was the factory bpv going out and leaking a little...so while the turbo was trying to spool up, it was leaking boost, causing the turbo to have to work that much harder and spin that much faster...can he hear any whistling from the turbo...kinda like a boost leak almost? Oh and seeing your other post, that was one of the first things I noticed...it was also taking longer to spool up!
