Does anyone on here run dunlop z1 (regular or the star spec edition) on their daily driver? I'm looking at purchasing a set but i would run them on my daily driver (15-18000 miles a year) and i'm concerned about how fast the tires wear. What is your opinion on the z1's? I've ran rt615's in the past and i wore them down to the wires in 15000 miles. I think the dunlops would wear even faster.
mmtasty is running the Star Spec. I was looking at a set. I think I'll end up with either the sumitomo HTR Ziii or Falken FK452
I'm running them and they are holding up good so far they are pretty harsh when it comes to feel. They have very stiff side walls and they stick to the road very well. I'd say they were worth the price so far.
15000 on rt615! I am going on 15000 on my rt615, with at least another 10k left on them...with the same yearly average as you too...weird. Still not great treadwear, but about what I expected to get. Plus they are so cheap!
I didn't even drive it aggresively, just regular highway and road travels. No track days or anything. The problem was that the alignment was off and the toe setting wore them off.
I pm'd mmtasty to see what he says about them. I was looking at the sumitomo z III but i've read many reviews online where people said that they tend to develop bubbles after hiting potholes or after 5-6000 miles. I don't know too much about the falken fk452.
I had 2 sets of the FK451 (the tire before the 452 ) they were GREAT. I've heard the 452 is better than the 451 from many different people on different cars...
I've had them for 1-2 months now, a couple thousand miles. They seem pretty good in the wet. Don't know if anything has changed yet but they were only available at tirerack, no one else could get them.
Road noise on the Falkens is HORRIBLE. My buddy has had both and once the tire hits halfway point it's loud. But most all performance tires are loud anyways so yeah...
Well i took the gamble and bought a set of new dunlop z1's from an individual online. In the reviews i read it was comparable to the re-01r's and i've gotten a great deal on them so i said "why not". Hopefully i can get a few autox-es with them so i can see how well they grip compared to my old 615's.
that's just it....I can never hear the tires over my exhaust so it's a moot point to me. I'm not worried about the noise anyway....just the performance Also, I just pulled the plug and ordered the 452
I've got them on my car, so far they work great as a daily driver! They do howl a bit, but that in my case has diminished within the first 1k miles on them(which is what I am at). They also grip like crazy in both the wet and drive! Very confidence inspiring. They also get HOT, and fast! After a long drive they will be really warm. The result is that after a drive all the rocks stick to the tires so when you go again they all fly off onto the car. I can't really tell you how long they will last, I'm hoping between 20 and 30k with no autoxing, just driving. At this point with them I would definitely buy them again and highly recommend them!
i think you'll like 'em, i've been very pleased with mine. so far they are wearing very well and grip great in wet or dry.
alex#2 (wrxwrc) runs them on his 240, i think he likes them alright but they are the older stlye dz101
I didn't put enough miles in to tell. I sold the wheels and tires to Capitan Slow. They seemed awesome. I'll get them again when I find a Forester. A little louder than RE01Rs, but they're less $ so it's worth it. The 615s need to be replaced faster than others with similar treadwear numbers because the tread pattern sucks for rain. When it gets to 1/2 wear they're dry only tires = not good for a street car. I've removed a few sets with only 6K on them.
Raced on them today. So much cold grip. It's great. They don't fade as quickly as the rt-615's I've tried before. Sucks my times don't reflect that.
