I'm thinking about getting compression done before I get retune and just a check up point for 60k miles. Anyone wants to help me out with this?? I believe that I can get the compression test kit from Autozone.
Generally speaking you do a compression test first and if you see a problem you do a leakdown next. Thats not always the case but usually it is. Leakdown is usually used to determine where the air is going, past the rings, past a bent valve....or through the giant hole in the side of the block. Matt
Not to steal the thread or anything, but I just gave this a shot with the autozone rental(s). I ended up having to get three off their kits so that i could join the three tips together to make a piece long enough to actually be able to thread it in. It was a total PITA, did I miss some trick to make this easier? The engine had cooled most of the way down by the time I found and disconnected my damn fuel pump relay and rented two more kits. Plus the guage hose had a small leak in it, so I'm hoping thats why I ended up with 120, 120, 120, 112. Pretty consistent except for number 4.
#4 has quite a bit of a percentage drop. Are you sure you tightened the tester in the spark plug hole good and tight. The 'slightest' leak will throw it off.
It's all good. 2.5L SB is part of my next upgrade plan, but cannot justify drop another 3-4k of cash into perfectly running strong car. Hence, doing the compression test and just to make sure. If no one is available, how much does dealer charge for 2.0L wrx?
Are you asking how much a new 2.0L short block is? Like only $100 cheaper than the 2.5L EJ257 shortblock. $1700ish+
