I've noticed every now and then after start up my car will smoke. It smells like burning oil and I doubt its the motor because the short block we installed supposedly only had 1100 miles on it. Could it be turbo related?

That's what mine was doing. I seriously doubt its the turbo because its newer than the block. If its the same as my 2 liter was then its probly a bad piston ring. Who knows how that motor was honestly treated.

I took the oil cap off when it smoked out of the exhaust, and there was no smoke. Isn't that an indicator of a bad ring if the oil fill tube smokes too?

most likely its going to be the turbo if anything. that turbo came off of an sti with 38,000 miles. the sti it came off of was driven pretty hard. thats why i sold you that turbo for so cheap.

Did you check the intercooler for any oil?
