Has anyone ever used or heard of this brand? My oem radiator is starting to leak and I found this brand while looking. Thanks, JOSH
KingWrex and YungDz has one and they swear by it. I'm gonna get one to keep things cool in the hot Florida weather.:coolugh:
is this direct plug and play. no plugging or rerouting of lines right? for that price might have to get me one.
Yep, I believe wjm also has it. I would go ahead and order silicone hoses while your at it. I got the obx ones for I think $75, or something close to it. Thanks for representin Rome.
They aren't bad for the money. We sell them and have put them in a lot of 240s. I prefer the Griffins or the Fluidyne radiators, the Fluidynes are a lot more expensive the Griffins are very affordable. Matt
Make sure to get the updated line kit from SUBARU. The Mishimoto is the 2004+ style rad that has a cap on the radiator. You MUST use the OEM round cap on the rad and NOT the one that comes with it. Otherwise I've seen many installed w/no issues as long as you use the update kit from SUBARU (kingwrex can get you hooked up on that) and the correct cap arrangement.
Why can't you use the cap that comes with it? And yea, I forgot about the line hose arrangement, go to classic for that.
The stock configuration is like so: Cap on tank: Relieves at 108kpa and during cool down it draws back in from the overflow. Cap on radiator: Relieves at 137kpa, as there is more pressure there than at the tank due to the heat and the fact that its the direct output from the engine and does NOT draw back from the overflow during cooldown. Why? If you had both caps the same (blow and suck) and at the same pressure then the rad would always release first and would eventually overfill the overflow tank as the upper tank is not releasing when it should So, you push out too much coolant during operation. THEN you have both caps sucking during cooldown and it drains the overflow...now you've got a huge air pocket in the engine/rad/upper tank. The process repeats itself until you have not much coolant left and you overheat for 'no reason.' So, just get the OEM rad cap and throw away the one that comes on the mishimoto. If you want higher pressure, you have to upgrade as a set and make sure the one that goes on the rad is the type that does not draw during cooldown.
Minimum Advertised Price on the Mishimotos is $250, of course I always have a special deal going for wrx atlanta members. We are a warehouse distributer for Mishimoto so if you need anything or if you would like a quote let me know. I'm also working on a special deal with the Griffin radiators Ill post more about it soon. Matt
I have one on my 04 sti and love it! Install was cake! Only problem was the top radiator hose was too long. So a little modifying and good 2 go!! Thanks for the tip on the cap never heard that.
Josh- Did you get this radiator? I am thinking about it for my '02 that has developed a small leak. I am a little confused about the cap on the radiator. On my '02 the cap is over by the turbo. Is this the same as the '03. I think that this is what WJM was talking about the update kit. Does that just make the cap on the radiator not really work? Feedback appreciated.
you'll need to go to a dealership and buy a couple of tubes that come on the 04+ Wrx/Sti. Go to Classic and Steven can show you what to get. You car will now have 2 radiator caps. 1 on the reservoir over the intake manifold and 1 on the radiator.
The 04+ design had a cap on the radiator that ONLY discharges when the pressure level is met. It does not allow fluid back in during cool down. It is also a higher pressure rating than the upper cap. The upper cap, on that tank near the turbo, its the primary cap. It has a lower pressure rating than the one on the radiator and goes both ways: discharge at pressure, then allow fluid draw during cool down. If you get an aftermarket radiator with a cap on it, throw that cap away and get the update parts from a subaru dealership. See this SUBARU TSB for more info: http://wjmrallyesport.com/09-37-0340413.pdf
If I get the Mishimoto, I will need the update cap from subaru for the radiator. Will the cap on the top tank stay the same, or do I need to update it also? I assume the Pipe overflow, Hose overflow B and Hose overflow A are all plug and play on the Mishimoto - correct?
If you don't want to do all the hose swapping and extra caps get one of the Koyos that's specific to your MY. I got mine off ebay with one of the "BIN/best offer" deals and was really pleased with it. It is however a little more expensive.
yes, get the subaru rad cap for the rad. The upper one can stay original. The pipes/hoses are pretty well PnP for any of the aftermarket ones.
Can you (in my case) just remove the OEM cap off my stock radiator and use it? I've heard of a lot of 2.5L swaps having overheating issues on stock WRX radiators so I was thinking it may be wise to upgrade mine when I'm swapping.
You should keep the stock caps (and arrangement) and upgrade the radiator instead. The ARC one is MASSIVELY AWESOME. At least, I think its the ARC I installed in Rankins car...it has like a 3" thick core. It also fits, amazingly.
I had Griffin stuff in my old DSM and it was AWESOME. And it's a SC made product too! With a 3" radiator do you need to go with Slim fans?
bump from the dead. Just trying to clarify but I just picked a mishimoto up for my 02 and from what I understand from this thread is I need to get a new OE cap for the radiator and I can leave the one on the tank near the turbo. So does that mean I need to get an OE cap for a '02 or for a '04? Im also confused on this upgrade kit...is it something I can order from Subaru with a part number or is it something that I have to piece together? any help much appreciated.
My only experience with the mishimoto was recently with a customers 07sti. He bought the mishi radiator and fan kit.. we install it and the car starts to run hot. We tried everything we could to get the temps under control, but nothing worked. Finally we re-installed the factory radiator and the temps were back to normal. I am sure it would work well for a lower hp car... but if you making over 400hp they are just plain crap... unless you just like them for looks.
I just put one in not too long ago on mine. I was slightly confused about the same thing you are. The radiator is a direct fit replacement. No need for other caps and what not. Other than trimming the upper hose about half an inch, everything works fine.
Sounds like you need the OE cap for the radiator from an '04 up. You also need the hoses / retrofit kit. I am guessing any of the local subaru parts depts. could help you sort it out.
