So I'm thinking about registering for a novice program on 7/12 autoX. (my first autocross) Do I have to be a member of SCCA to participate? What's involved in a novice program? Who's going?
Do it you will not regret it, I did the novice program 2 Autox ago and have gone to everyone since. You don't have to be a member to participate, you will get a temporary membership that will give you $15 off your membership if you decide to join. The Novice program is great to get familiar with AutoX, they start off by explaining to the group how AutoX works, what the cones mean, and then later take you on a course walk, you then get 6 runs with an instructor, which is very helpful since you won't be as good as a driver as you thought. I will see you there, I have a set of V710s I have been itching to try out.
you'll need atleast st 4 mods on your car. and the sickest suspension and a gutted car. ... lol just show up with good tires and brakes and have fun.
I am pondering on this also, but I will have to wait for the next session. Since my car has not sold, I am keeping it, lol. Brake pads, lines, rotors are in the works as mine are shot to hell. Then, off to Classic so King can massage it over, lol.
If you have any questions about Auto X, or want tips before the event, PM BrianGT or Meredith. They are our resident Auto X experts. They will most likely be at any local event you ever go to. Both are excellent drivers, and can definitely point you in the right direction.
I was looking at registration and noticed that Novice was capped at 10 entrants, and by my count that means its already full. It could be a little intimidating your first time, but you could still run in your class.
It's best to complete the novice program rather than just participating in your class for your first autox. During the night events we run the novices before sundown to ensure that our novices have plenty of visability. Also we do run about 200 plus cars an event so again we like to make sure that our novices are utilizing the program rather than just running by themselves for the first event. Unfortunately we have to run a tight schedule and having somebody out on course that clearly needs some instruction can throw off the pace of the 200 plus people event. You'll find more answers at www.soloatlanta.com and www.soloatlanta.com/forum PS if you send a very nice email to soloatlanta (at) gmail.com you maybe allowed to register for novice class even though it's filled up
I'm planning to be there Sat night. If you don't get to run in novice I'd be glad to show you how it works. Simple, really and you'll have a lot of fun!
Again Teamsolo strongly recommends that all true novices take the novice orientation program. Much information on courseworking, saftey and rules must be given to novices at their first autox in order for the event to rub smoothly.
