So the AP I have on loan to me has a virtual dyno feature that supposedly measures WHP. You input approx curb weight, rpm range and the gear you want to do the pull in. Then the ap senses when you're below the base rpm and you nail it to the top of your specified range. It then calculates your HP and TQ. :rlyo: So I tried it tonight. I did 3 second gear pulls on various on ramps around stockbridge (mind you they were empty at 3am...after I got off of work.). Over three second gear pulls from 2000rpm to 6500rpm I got three readings of 250whp and 290wtq +/- 5hp. :eek3::eek3: :rlyo: I'm not getting my hopes up, but does anyone know anything about how accurate that could be? The results were repeatable and I even checked to be sure the curb weight was right. Its rated at 3150 with a full gas tank and no occupants. I had a 1/4 tank of gas and I weigh 175 so I guessed 3300. So that could be wrong, I guess. I want to find the time for some real dyno time here pretty soon. I'm just really curious because this particular EJ257 has shown itself to be nothing but awesome so far. On the same dynos people are not getting as good numbers around the county. Anyone else tried this nifty little feature out?
Sounds about right for what you should be putting down untuned. I dont have an AP, nor will I ever own one but that's a nifty feature.
You should try doing the Virtual Dyno pull in 3rd gear. I think 2nd might be too short. When we have Dyno Days at TS or BG, they usually do pulls in 3rd and occasionally in 4th.
Hmm. I wonder if my AP has that? I think I have the latest firmware but all I have is 0-60 and 1/4 mile performance? Guess I don't have the latest Firmware. From Cobb's website. The Firmware update 1.2.6.2, 1.2.6.3, and 1.2.6.5 features the following: - Added adjustable shift light in 'Live Data' (adjustment located under 'Settings') - Added estimated peak horsepower/torque calculation under 'Perf. Data' ('Dynamometer') - Added 'ECU Settings' with the ability to adjust RPM set points for launch-control and flat-foot shift features** - Added monitors to 'Live Data' ... - Fuel Trim (Short) - Fuel Trim (Long) - MAF Voltage - Calculated Load - Dynamic Advance Multiplier - Improved accuracy and responsiveness for calculations under 'Live Data', 'Perf. Data' and 'Fuel Econ' - Usability improvements including ... - Main menu re-ordered to provide quick access to common tasks - 'Reset ECU' and 'Read Codes' grouped under 'Troubleshooting' - 'Live Data' monitor items re-ordered - Improved 'Reset ECU' logic - 07/08 Forester XT Automatic support - Revised 2008 WRX Manual calibrations (AP-SUB-003 only) - 2007 WRX and STI, changed `Live Data' to use `Learned Ign.' instead of `Dynamic Advance'. (AP-SUB-002 only) **RPM set points can be adjusted ONLY if these features are enabled within the current map
I would have preferred 3rd, yes, but 3rd tops out around 100mph or so....and that's not ideal for a public road. Second tops out around 60 I believe. Much more acceptable. I believe it accounts for the gear you're in, as it asks for the gear you're going to use when you start the function.
Yeah. Not sure if I would get my hopes up on those numbers. I added that firmware and did some quick 2nd gear pulls in my Saab last night. I got 280whp and 300wtq. At the Batlground dyno during my SS Protune, I got 231whp and 252wtq. On other news, I would like to hear what SS thinks about the new Load and fuel trim readings available with the new firmware. My DAM reads 16 so I think that is good.
Hopefully about a month from now. We're waiting for the tactrix cable to come out. Duly noted. I was just curious. I find those numbers believable given the car's baseline numbers. That's a pickup of about 45hp/tq, which seems right. We shall see, however.
