Ciff Notes: Need help swapping STi cluster next week...will reward! A member on nasioc put a MY04 STi gauge cluster in his MY04 WRX 3 years ago and needs to swap it back with one "closer to the original mileage" to sell his car. My car has the miles he needs and I want that cluster. I will get it sometime next week. He is including the Outside Air Temp. probe, but not the wiring. I want this to work and have no vehicle wiring experience, other than a simple stereo stuff. :wtc: Also, what would it take to get the R.Diff Temp working...or should it just be grounded. I really just want everything done the right way. So, has anyone done this swap before and willing to give me a hand next week; the trader needs mine asap. I can drive to you and pick up any parts, food and beverages, etc. along the way. Thanks! Matt
the actual swap is easy enough. it will plug right in. outside air temp probe and other bits are going to be tricky. i havent found much documentation but I do have the service manuals so I could probably track it down. the rear diff temp will need the corresponding RTD installed in the rear diff, which you won't have since you have an R160. if you have to meet him and swap it, it is simple. just two screws and unplug it. you can drive the car fine with it until we get the r diff temp and OAT working
Heads up I remember hearing something about how the gauge cluster wiring is slightly different between the wagons and sedans so you might have to do some splicing. I cannot recall what years it affected so you might be in luck.
Thanks...I'll start searching. Side note...found the OTA write up on scoobymods.com; looks like I need to pick up a 2.2 Ohm resistor and a 5V regulator to build a voltage regulator. Radio Shack...right?
was that guide written by mike (screaminfast ) ? the guys in the nasioc thread are talking about swapping all kinds of retarded shit like auto HVAC controls and other bullshit to get it to work either radioshack, jameco, parts express, or mouser
Yep, thats the one. You agree with everything? I don't think I will even short the radio. I got sooo lost on nasioc, until I found a thread posted by the original owner from 2004, where someone posted mike's thread. Now, if I can just sweet-talk King into acquiring the extra pin...:sx:
youll need to clip the wire so you don't short the radio fuse. I haven't personally done mike's write up. he was a friend of mine when I lived up near albany. I know his temp readout works last I saw it in person
see, thats where it gets confusing. the posts on nasioc say to cut B27, mike's only says to cut B28. hmmmm. :dunno
no I haven't fucked with it. I need to order the temp probe. waiting on the kennesaw stealership to open so stephen wayne king can hook it up with some deals I assume it is an RTD. I'd like to know the resistance values used for it, then I could just hook it up to whatever I want (coolant temp or IAT or some other bullshit)
I have the temp sensor. I just need to wire up that voltage regulator. It's done and soldered but I have to install it.......just haven't done it yet as I'm more focused on getting the car ready for round 11ty billion of mods.
I am...we have everything at work. You know, if your attitude was a bit more cheerful, I might make you one too.
Buddy forgot to ship the OAT...next week, but I got the cluster installed on my lunch break. Plug & Play...
