Just thought i'd share my most recent oil analysis for my EJ253. as shown in the report its sitting at about 45k miles and this is the longest i've ever run oil at over 6k miles before changing (i'm old school and have had a hard time giving up the OMG CHANGE EVERY 3,000!!!1! mentality.). its had synth oil in it since new and i always use either Purolator or OEM filters.

my goal is to use synth oil to enable me to run the engine hard and still have extended use of the oil. i think reports like this are great to educate yourself on your engine's condition, find out what oil your engine likes and give you the info you need to get the most $$ out of your oil changes so you don't waste good oil.

i drive the car at least 45 miles a day and drive up to the mountains for some driving fun about 2 or 3 times an oil change. i was also able to fit an autocross in as well. this was also used in the middle of summer so the car definitely had to deal with some toasty temps.

i'm happy with the wear metals, plenty of additive left, low fuel dilution and the viscosity hardly suffered at all. Silicon is also fine meaning my OEM air filter is doing its job. i would definitely recommend Pennzoil Platinum to anyone with an N/A subaru -- look up more results for this oil on www.bobistheoilguy.com if you want more feedback. drive on!

My report from Blackstone indicated slightly higher than normal amounts of lead...I learned that this could be bad as high amounts of lead are an indication that your bearings are getting worn on, but on the other hand it could also be normal. Especially if you have ever used leaded fuel...which I have. I also learned that it is not uncommon for cars from GA...for some reason...to have higher levels of lead in the analysis. What I should have done was follow up with a second anaylsis, but I didn't. What did do was drive around paranoid that my bearings were going to let go at any minute...that was 30k miles ago.

I am a firm believer in the "what you don't know won't hurt you" mentality. The only thing that I got from BITOG and Blackstone was a feeling of paranoia. Way more information about oil than anyone ever needs to know! ;)

Seriously tho, I wish that I had been a little more persistent and followed up with a second analysis with Blackstone. I took the sample, I just never sent it in...of course they keep you on file and it is never too late to send it in...if I can find it, it's around here somewhere.

    Anyway.

    Thanks for posting!

Looks like your doing alright. I like redline mainly cause I get it for $6 a quart at work and thats what I can buy Mobil 1 for at the zone. But different strokes for different folks right?

yeah i hear you about the paranoia. i've suffered badly with that before on all my cars, however i wanted to make sure on this because i want to extend my usage and was curious how the additives and viscosity held up. i don't care as much about the engine - i know people that take way worse care of them then i do, and they still go for years and years. but i do like to at least know whats up.

i'll be sending in more oil so i can start seeing any trends or differences between changes, like what you mentioned.

i may go for Rotella 5W-40 synth as a better autocross oil since its cheap, easy to find, and a little thicker. we'll see whats on sale when that time comes :)
